Performs test engineering and scientific services, special studies, and technical writing and other technical tasks as required. Tasks may include the research and development, design, planning, coordination, execution, and reporting on test programs of military equipment, commercial equipment, and other test items. A variety of technical and scientific support projects include applying instrumentation to test materiel and equipment, developing methods for data acquisition, acquiring and recording test data, imagery, analyzing data, repairing and troubleshooting instrumentation, preparing and setting up test ranges, aligning instrumentation and equipment, verifying adequacy and accuracy of work, preparing and writing reports, removing instrumentation, and related support to test programs. More specific requirements for chemist, health physics, physical and physicist positions follow.

Chemist III

* Performs as an analytical specialist responsible for determining trace elements and compounds in a variety of sample matrices from or associated with the testing of military material using the following instruments: plasma and/or atomic spectrometry, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrometry, mass spectrometry, UV-Vis spectrometry, gas chromatography, High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), ion chromatography and wet chemical techniques. The samples are submitted by various sources within the organization.
* Responsible for analyzing the complex or unprecedented samples, which usually require method development or modification.
* Performs chemical and/or physical analyses and tests of samples to provide the information requested or solve a novel or unique problems presented.
* Determines the specific data needed and the best approach to take to obtain that data. Develops, adapts, and modifies the approaches, methods, and procedures.
* Performs the analysis or test, which can be a laboratory setting or field environment.
* Evaluates and interprets the results of such. Writes a report stating the results, interpretation, and conclusions.
* Writes operating procedures for the laboratory methods and procedures that have been developed or modified. * Investigates and recommends potential new laboratory instrumentation and supplies.
* Prepares purchase specifications. Responsible to bring specified equipment online for use in testing.
* Is responsible for the quality control program on his/her specialized instrument and analysis conducted.
* Provides technical chemical information to customers to include test plans, environmental documentation, etc.
* Plans, coordinates and conducts complex scientific assessments, studies and projects related to mycology, biology, or chemistry.
* Reviews and prepares, test methods, plans, reports and related documents.
* Plans, arranges, and manages data collection and preliminary analysis work.
* Develops new information, considers data from a variety of sources, and modifies and originates approaches, methods, and procedures to plan and carry out assignments.
* Reviews and evaluates samples of any matrix.
* Conducts chemical compatibility, fungus, and other related testing.
* Provides professional scientific technical support and evaluations in support of test projects.
* Work requires professional knowledge of physical science, biology or chemistry.

Health Physics III

* Plans, coordinates and conducts complex scientific assessments, studies and projects of radiation protection, restoration and pollution prevention initiatives.
* Reviews and prepares radiation work permits, plans, survey reports, monthly operating reports and related documents.
* Plans, arranges, and manages data collection and review of sample analysis by in-house and external radiochemistry laboratories.
* Reviews and evaluates environmental sampling, surveys and inventories.
* Reviews and evaluates samples of soil, water, and sediment in accordance with applicable environmental, occupational safety and health regulations and laws.
* Performs risk assessments of radiation use and test operational procedures and recommends effective mitigation measures.
* Investigates incidents and accidents and participates in emergency response exercises.
* Prepares air samples, collects and analyzes air samples, and maintains sample logs.
* Provides professional scientific technical support and evaluations in support of projects.
* Monitors and inspects facilities and operations to identify and rectify safety problems.
* Actively supports safety, security and environmental requirements, and complex federal, state and local laws and regulations.
* Work requires professional knowledge of physical science, health physics or environmentally related efforts.

Physical III

* Plans, coordinates and conducts complex scientific assessments, studies and projects of environmental compliance, conservation, restoration and pollution prevention initiatives.
* Reviews and prepares environmental permits, plans, reports and related documents. Plans, arranges, and manages data collection and preliminary analysis work.
* Develops new information, considers data from a variety of sources, and modifies and originates approaches, methods, and procedures to plan and carry out assignments.
* Reviews and evaluates environmental sampling, surveys and inventories.
* Reviews and evaluates samples of wastewater, soil, water, sediment, solids, semi-solids, liquids and other regulated and non-regulated hazardous waste in accordance with applicable environmental, occupational safety and health regulations and laws.
* Performs determinations of characterization, identification, compatibility, nature and degree of hazards and ensure safe and effective mitigation measures are taken.
* Investigates the containment, clean-up and reporting of spills and releases.
* Prepares and label samples, delivers samples, coordinates chemical laboratory analysis and maintains logs.
* Provides professional scientific technical support and evaluations in support of projects.
* Monitors and inspects facilities and operations to identify and rectify environmental problems.
* Evaluates adequacy of control and abatement measures and identifies and makes determinations of alternate mitigation and pollution prevention measures.
* Work requires professional knowledge of physical science or environmentally related efforts.

Physicist III

* Plans, coordinates and conducts complex scientific assessments, studies and projects of system development initiatives.
* Reviews and prepares technical evaluations, plans, reports and related documentation.
* Plans, arranges, and manages data collection and preliminary analysis work.
* Develops new information, considers data from a variety of sources, and modifies and originates approaches, methods, and procedures to plan and carry out assignments.
* Reviews and evaluates technical proposals, plans, reports and related documentation.
* Performs determinations of characterization, identification, compatibility, nature and degree of requirements to meet DoD mission.
* Investigates sensor technology, remote sensing, and sensor systems for current and near term (3-8 years) requirements.
* Provides professional scientific technical analysis and evaluations in support of Test and Evaluation for sensor, sensor systems, and electro-optics.
* Monitors projects and development to identify and provide options for technical problems.
* Evaluates adequacy of proposals, identifies, and makes determinations of alternate technical risk mitigation.
* Work requires professional knowledge of electromagnetic propagation, remote sensing, physics, optical systems and related efforts.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications

* Shall possess a Bachelor’s Degree in specialization or related scientific discipline and 3 yr. applicable experience; or a Master’s Degree in specialization or related scientific discipline and 1 yr. applicable experience. Specializations include Chemist, Health Physics, Physical, and Physicist.

Physical Qualifications

* The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment and sometimes in the field where you are subject to the environment.
* Must be capable of sitting and entering data on a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
* Must be able to view computer monitor for extended periods of time.
* Must be able to lift 25 pounds unassisted.
* Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.

* Must be a U.S. Citizen.
* Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
* Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions.

* Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.

Rate of Pay/Benefits

Yearly Salary $84,000.00
