We are currently hiring for a skilled Industrial Maintenance Technician in our Greenville, South Carolina, facility. In this role, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing and completing preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment including not but limited to, mechanical systems, electrical systems, pneumatic system, tanks, different types of pumps and pipes, along with overall upkeep of the facility. The role also involves performing advanced maintenance tasks, including pipe fitting, pump rebuilding, and steam maintenance. The role requires someone with a strong mechanical skillset who can follow both verbal and written instructions, along with the ability to stay flexible in case of emergencies or breakdowns.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Employee must pass a fitness for duty test, drug screen and submit to a TB test on a post offer employment physical.
- Observe all company policies, rules, procedures, regulations and perform all duties assigned by management in a safe, efficient, and courteous manner.
- Ensure the efficient operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by performing preventive maintenance and repairs on engines, motors, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, mixers, boilers, air compressors, space heaters, silos, storage tanks, dust collectors, pumps, and production machines. This includes following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer instructions, and engineering specifications, as well as troubleshooting malfunctions.
- Locate sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
- Remove defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
- Determine changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
- Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straight edges.
- Pipe fitting, including cutting, threading, and assembling pipes to ensure proper functionality.
- Troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical systems, including pumps (lobe, gear, diaphragm, mag-drive, and impeller pumps).
- Maintain and troubleshoot basic electrical systems.
- Ability to verify proper function of steam systems and components.
- Conduct inspections and identify any issues that may require immediate attention or repairs.
- Assist outside contractors, when applicable, as instructed by management.
- Assist in cleaning mixers and tanks as needed.
- Maintain accurate and complete maintenance records including parts used and completed tasks.
- Organize and maintain all maintenance tools in order to prevent damage and loss.
- Organize and safeguard all documents and quality records related to equipment maintenance.
- Work in a safe manner following all plant safety procedures. Strictly follow confined space entry, PPE, lockout-tagout procedures and confined space entry.
- Maintain a high level of housekeeping in work area.
- Perform all duties assigned by supervisor
- Conduct maintenance work and repairs while adhering to safe work practices (hot work, lockout/tag-out, line break, and confined space entry).
- Able to pass a pulmonary function test (PFT) and wear appropriate respiratory PPE.
- Follow safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times, including respiratory protection when required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proven experience in industrial maintenance or a similar role.
- Strong skills in troubleshooting, installation, and pipe fitting, including cutting and threading.
- Comprehensive knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Proficient in using job-related terminology, symbols, and abbreviations accurately.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
- Solid foundational skills in math and computer operations.
- Effective verbal and written communication in English.
- Basic knowledge of metal fabrication, welding, and plumbing.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair advanced mechanical systems, basic electrical systems, and pneumatic systems.
- Experience with steam system and components.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a professional team environment.
- Proficient in the proper use of hand and power tools, including multimeters, micrometers, and calipers.
- Capable of testing wiring insulation, performing Ohm measurements, and troubleshooting motor performance.
- Solid understanding of electrical and pneumatic switches and controls.
- Basic knowledge of PLC.
- Proficient in three-phase electrical wiring.
- Ability to rebuild machinery independently with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of maintaining and ensuring proper use of safety guards.
- Familiarity with safe work practices, including hot-work, lockout/-tag-out, line break, and confined space entry permits.
- Ability to respond quickly to emergency maintenance needs with minimal supervision.
- Ability to use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Familiarity with the breakdown and rebuilding of various types of pumps, including lobe, gear, diaphragm, mag-drive, and impeller pumps.
- Basic welding knowledge and ability
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions with high attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma, required.
- Previous industrial maintenance experience of at least two (2) years OR a two (2) year industrial maintenance degree in lieu of experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods standing, climbing steps, working at heights greater than 15 feet on a mezzanine or ladder.
- Ability to carry heavy loads of up to 50 pounds or more.
- Ability to pass a respirator certification and wear appropriate respiratory protective equipment as necessary.
- Squeezing through narrow spaces.
- Working in tight or uncomfortable positions.
- Work in an uncontrolled environmental setting where temperatures can be extremely cold, hot or humid depending on the outside temperatures.
- Work in an environment where there can be unexpected, sudden loud noises, beeping backup alarms, flashing lights and sudden movements.
Work Schedule
- Monday-Friday 6:30 am to 3:00 pm.
- Overtime required in the event of emergency breakdowns.
- In the event of a major plant breakdown, may require extended hours.
- Work environment is on site in Greenville, SC. Remote work not offered for this position.
Pay
- $25.00 - $33.00 per hour, based on experience.
