POSITION SUMMARY:
As a Program Underwriting Intern, you’ll have a chance to build your business acumen by supporting the underwriting department’s growth and profitability goals, making meaningful contributions to the business. Underwriting involves assessing risks and determining the terms of insurance policies, making it a critical function in the financial industry. This internship offers a unique opportunity to develop analytical skills and gain insights into risk management, and to learn & experience different areas of the insurance industry including but not limited to underwriting, risk management, audit, and claims.
Trean’s Program Underwriting team oversees the underwriting teams that help support our 30 program partners writing business on behalf of our Trean owned insurance carriers. We are the primary point of contact for our program partners for all underwriting inquiries and help them write and retain profitable business.
Responsibilities:
Within this 12-week internship you will get exposure to many different roles and responsibilities of a program underwriter including:
- Due Diligence and Onboarding of a new potential program partner.
- Monthly Program Performance Reviews of existing programs to ensure profitable underwriting results and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with Program Underwriting Audit Team on program partner audits.
- Work with IT, Stat Reporting, and Accounting teams in obtaining quality program partner data.
- Develop and maintain underwriting guidelines for new and existing program partners.
- Home office consultant to external partners on underwriting programs: Including Home Office approval on account referrals outside the authority of external partners.
- Assist Regulatory and Compliance teams with program partner reviews.
- Provide regular reports on program outcomes and performance.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a current college student to qualify (Class of 2026 preferred).
- Demonstrate an interest in learning about the insurance industry.
- Experience with Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint is preferred but not required.
- Exceptional communication skills and business acumen are necessary.
- Must be a self-starter with proven analytical skills and the ability to operate independently.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with commitment to honesty, integrity, and unwavering business ethics.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and external partners.
Salary : $20
