Report: Office Manager

General Summary: The Optician is the most diverse position at Treasures State Eye Care (TSEC). The Optician is a cross-functional position of administrative, technical, and retail. The major responsibility of the Optician is to review prescriptions written by optometrists to give patients the proper eyewear. The Optician helps patients/customers pick the best frames for their glasses and their needs, repair broken frames and adjust eyewear when necessary. The Optician also needs to be able to educate individuals about how to properly handle and clean glasses. In order to properly measure and fit glasses, the Optician will go through an apprenticeship program. This position will interact with patients/customers and is expected to deliver an exceptional patient/customer experience, foster patient/customer retention, and promotes outstanding associate/doctor satisfaction. The Optician is a true professional that fulfills any additional duties at TSEC as assigned by the Office Manager, the Leadership Team and/or the Optometrists. Providing our patients/customers with the best possible eye care experience is our number one priority. We work as a team, and team members are expected to perform a variety of cross-functional tasks as assigned by the Office Manager, the Leadership Team, or the Optometrists to ensure overall patient/customer and employee satisfaction. This job description intends to describe the general nature of the Optician. It is not intended to include all duties and responsibilities. The list below is not in order of priority.

Patient/Customer Service Retail/Technical/Optical

  • Greet and direct patients
  • Obtain patient prescriptions from Optometrists
  • Answer telephones
  • Take patient/customer information and measurements of the ocular area
  • Recommend frames that suit the patient/customers style, face and specifications
  • Maintain a positive attitude at all times
  • Update and maintain Electronic Medical Records
  • Dispense glasses and contact lenses
  • Front Desk support when needed
  • Use specialized equipment
  • Assist patients with paperwork as needed
  • Repair broken frames
  • Open and/or closing the Lab and the Office as needed
  • Educate patients/customers on how to wear and maintain glasses
  • Openly communicate with the Office Manager and other team members
  • Execute glasses ordering for our patients/customers per Policies and Procedures
  • Execute Rx orders and instructions per request of the Optometrists
  • Act with Urgency
  • Process patients in a timely manner according to Policies and Procedures
  • Work as a team with the Optometrists and Optemetric Technicians
  • Execute efficiencies to optimize time and tasks
  • Contact lens teaching
  • Product knowledge

Optician Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • An Associate's degree in Opticianry may be a benefit
  • An Opticianry Certification/ Licensed Optician may be a benefit
  • On-the -job training and experience in clinical work
  • Excellent customer service and sales ability
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organization skills
  • Self motivation, and ability to work under pressure
  • Detail oriented and meticulous
