What are the responsibilities and job description for the Collegiate Specialty Sports Coach - Downtown Boise YMCA position at Treasure Valley Family YMCA?
The Downtown Family YMCA opened its doors in 1964 and has since been a landmark in the Downtown Boise area. The facility has a full court basketball gym, a large cardio fitness center, multiple strength training systems and rooms, racquetball courts, a climbing wall, five fitness studios, three swimming pools, and multiple youth programming areas.
The Collegiate Specialty Sports Coach maintains safe Track & Field conditions in all track facilities of use, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Create an inclusive and fun environment for participants by actively engaging and building relationships with participants, parents, and coaches.
- Represent the Y at assigned sites through effective site and equipment management, knowledge of the activity or sport, and by role modeling the Y’s core values.
- Create a safe environment by educating participants, parents, and volunteers and responding swiftly to incidents when they occur.
- Provide appropriate feedback to participants, parents, and volunteers.
- Implement leading practices and the established curriculum.
- Work closely with Coordinator and Director to ensure program area operations are consistent with approved Leading Practices.
- Engage participants and volunteers to deepen their relationships in the Y cause.
- Build specific workouts for individuals or groups based on initial skills assessment and ongoing evaluation.
- Set overall team performance goals and work with the coaching staff, parents, and participants to implement plan to accomplish set goals.
Qualifications:
- Must have been a collegiate athlete or have a coaching certificate.
- Must be able to engage others in conversations and make all people feel welcome.
- Ability to respond calmly and quickly to safety and emergency situations.
- Must have good interpersonal and communications skills and be sensitive, adaptable, professional, and articulate when dealing with others.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
Required Licensure and/or Certifications:
- CPR and AED. Prerequisite upon hire – 14 day compliance period to obtain.
- First Aid. Prerequisite upon hire – 14 day compliance period to obtain.
- Safe Sports Certification attesting completion of training within 14 days of hire.
- USA Track and Field Certification preferred.
Schedule:
This is a part time position averaging 8 hours weekly. Schedule requirements include the following High School locations;
- Boise High School: Tuesday & Thursday, (Youth/Teen), 11:00am-12:15pm, 6:00pm -7:15pm and (Advanced) 7:15pm-9:00pm.
- Centennial High School: (Youth/Teen), Evenings with Days TBD 6:00pm-7:15pm.
- Kuna High School: (Youth/Teen) Monday & Wednesday, 9:00am-10:15am.
