Day in the Life of an EHR Integrations Specialist
EHR Integration Management
Oversee the integration of EHR systems (such as CareLogic, Medgen, Epic, Cerner, or similar) with other clinical, administrative, and financial systems used throughout the organization.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of data interoperability principles, ensuring seamless exchange, interpretation, and integration of healthcare data across systems, while maintaining data integrity and supporting efficient clinical and operational workflows.
Ensure proper data flow and integration standards between opioid treatment programs and ancillary systems, such as labs, pharmacy, and billing systems.
Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues to minimize system downtime and workflow disruptions.
Ongoing monitoring and fidelity of integrations impacting the EHRs and working with vendors.
System Design & Implementation
Work closely with clinical and IT teams to design, test, and implement EHR system integrations that align with the organization’s clinical, operational and billing needs.
Lead the integration of new modules, features, and third-party solutions into the EHR system, ensuring compliance with both internal and external standards.
Assist in the planning and execution of EHR upgrades and ensure proper integration of updated systems with existing workflows and interfaces.
Clinical Workflow Optimization
Collaborate with clinical staff to understand the needs of opioid addiction treatment and identify integration opportunities that will enhance care delivery.
Work with teams to map out clinical workflows and recommend technology solutions that improve efficiency, reduce errors, and streamline processes.
Ensure the EHR system is optimized for use in opioid treatment centers, including specific requirements for regulatory compliance, patient monitoring, and medication management.
RCM System Integration & Configuration
Support the integration of RCM systems with the EHR platform, ensuring seamless data exchange between clinical, billing, and financial systems.
Collaborate with IT and finance teams to configure RCM system settings that align with organizational billing processes, payer requirements, and regulatory standards.
Ensure accurate and timely integration of payor data, billing codes, and claims information between the EHR and RCM systems for seamless claims submission and reimbursement processing.
Data Quality & Compliance
Monitor the quality of data exchanged through EHR integrations to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA and industry standards.
Work with stakeholders to ensure that all data transferred from EHR systems meets security and privacy standards to protect patient information.
Collaborate with the compliance team to ensure the system meets federal, state, and local regulations regarding opioid addiction treatment and clinical data sharing.
Collaboration & Project Management
Collaborate with the IT department, clinical leaders, and external vendors to identify and prioritize integration needs based on operational and clinical objectives.
Manage projects related to EHR system integration, from inception through implementation, ensuring that deadlines, budgets, and goals are met.
Communicate regularly with project stakeholders to update on the progress of integration efforts and resolve any obstacles.
Location
Remote with some travel to Corporate as needed (Greenville, SC).
Education and Requirements
Bachelor's degree in health information management, Healthcare IT, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
3 years of experience working with EHR systems (Epic, Cerner, or similar) in a healthcare setting, specifically with system integration and data management.
Strong understanding of clinical workflows in opioid addiction treatment programs, including:
Regulatory requirements
Patient care protocols
Medication management systems
Experience working with integration tools and middleware platforms (e.g., Mirth, Cloverleaf, or Rhapsody) to ensure EHR system interoperability.
Familiarity with data security protocols and privacy standards, including HIPAA compliance.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to quickly troubleshoot and resolve integration issues.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Experience with project management, and familiarity with methodologies such as agile or waterfall.
Certification in Health Information Management (e.g., RHIA, RHIT, or similar) or Certified Healthcare IT Specialist (CHIS) is a plus.
Experience with opioid addiction treatment systems, including:
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT)
Patient management tools
Knowledge of electronic prescribing, laboratory interface standards, and pharmacy systems.
