Essential Job Functions:
- Responsible for staff performance, staff recruitment, staff retention and staff development for all nursing department personnel.
- Serves as a key member of the facility’s core management team and ensures effective integration or nursing services into overall treatment center operations.
- Helps maintain nursing staffing levels within the facility on all shifts to ensure quality patient care
- Initiates the development of policies and procedures that govern nursing services.
- Collaborates with other departments and agencies regarding resources and services for improved patient care and staff development.
- Participates in all facility committee meetings as indicated and required.
- Meets with patients requesting to see the doctor to determine the urgency of their medical needs and expedite treatment as required.
- Effectively communicates concerns about patient health to the Medical Director, ARNP/PA-C and nursing staff, and follows up as necessary.
- Under the supervision of the Medical Director, the Director of Nursing ensures clients are being educated about health problems and medical care.
- Facilitates medication education for new patients and for all other patients starting new medications.
- Provides therapists with pertinent information about patient medical problems.
- Assists the treatment team in incorporating medical issues into treatment planning.
- Ensures all orders from the Medical Director and/or ARNP/PA-C, is documented appropriately in the patient record by nurses and ensures the nursing staff carries them out accurately and professionally
- Is responsible to ensure that nursing staff is administering medications to all patients as ordered.
- Ensures routine nursing care is provided by nursing staff under the supervision of the Medical Director.
- Encourage efficient utilization of supplies and equipment to prevent waste.
- Maintains effective communication between outside medical services and the facility.
- Participates in Utilization Review, Fire & Disaster development, and others as requested
- Attends in-service education programs as assigned to learn new forms, procedures, developmental skills, etc.
- Understands Baker Act and medical emergency procedures, which include effectively communicating with all appropriate staff as well as ensuring nursing staff contacts a client’s Emergency Contact in the event of such emergencies.
- Performs other assignments as requested by supervisor
Requirements:
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Ohio.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in nursing.
- Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role in nursing.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a chemical dependency/psychiatric setting, preferably in an inpatient, partial hospitalization and/or outpatient setting required.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide nursing staff effectively.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple responsibilities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with the interdisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of and commitment to nursing best practices, evidence-based care, and patient safety.
- Functions well as a team member and contribute positively to the morale of staff
- Familiarity with The Joint Commission and CARF accreditation standards.
