Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Needs Advocate to join our team. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about supporting students with developmental disabilities and ensuring they receive the education and resources they need to thrive. Duties
- Collaborate with educators, parents, and specialists to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Advocate for the rights of students with developmental disabilities within educational settings.
- Conduct assessments to identify the specific needs of students and recommend appropriate interventions.
- Provide support in lesson planning that accommodates diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Facilitate communication between families and school staff regarding student progress and resources available.
- Assist in creating a nurturing classroom environment that promotes social skills, independence, and academic growth.
- Offer training sessions or workshops for parents and educators on best practices for supporting students with disabilities.
- Utilize knowledge of American Sign Language as needed to communicate effectively with students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Experience
Candidates should possess the following skills and experience:
- Proven experience working with children or individuals with developmental disabilities in educational or childcare settings.
- Strong understanding of childhood development principles and special education practices.
- Familiarity with lesson planning techniques that cater to various learning needs.
- Experience in classroom management strategies that promote an inclusive atmosphere.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language is a plus.
- Background in math instruction is beneficial for supporting students' academic needs.
