The Manager, Laboratory (Hematology Lab) will oversee the management of the core laboratory. This role involves ensuring compliance with State and Federal laws, adhering to CAP guidelines, and maintaining Quality Assurance standards. The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for job performance, customer interactions, teammate relations, and information confidentiality. This position may require working various shifts including days, evenings, or nights, and reports to the Sr. Director/Director of Laboratory Operations or Sr. Manager, Lab.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Team Management:
- Plan, organize, and supervise teammates to ensure high-quality customer service.
- Manage all aspects of teammate employment including hiring, promotions, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions with appropriate approvals.
- Provide work direction and ensure effective use of teammates; ensure coverage during absences.
- Monitor workflow and delegate responsibilities to team members.
Operational Oversight:
- Ensure accuracy and promptness of test results and reporting in the service line.
- Apply clinical theoretical knowledge and scientific methods to problem-solving.
- Collaborate on the laboratory quality improvement program, including evaluation of key laboratory outcome indicators and financial metrics (budgets, operating and capital, P&L, internal projects) through monthly reviews of departmental expenditures.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Evaluate regulatory and certification requirements to ensure the section is inspection-ready.
- Follow established Standard Operating Procedures to meet and exceed regulatory and accrediting agencies' requirements.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree required.
- Experience: 6 years of clinical laboratory experience (required by New York regulations for supervisors).
- Licensing: Current Florida license as a Supervisor in Chemistry required, and certification by a professional laboratory certifying agency (e.g., ASCP) or eligibility.
- Bachelor's Degree.
