Position Summary
The Adult Education Instructor is responsible for the day-to-day instruction and supervision of adult learners. These individuals attend class for the purpose of improving basic skills in order to obtain their GED or High School Diploma. A major emphasis in this program is to become gainfully employed and/or to retain employment. The continuation of the position is contingent upon grant renewal.
Salary Schedule D3
Salary Range: $31,289 - $52,194 (9 months); $10,430-$17,397 (3 months, if applicable)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate and maintain a high level of competence and expertise in the teaching field or subject area.
- Facilitate student learning by utilizing a variety of learning options to meet individual student needs.
- Maintain necessary attendance and records and submit them according to announced deadlines.
- Evaluate and record student performance/achievement in a timely manner and provide prompt feedback to students to assure learning outcomes.
- Participate in the planning of effective long-range and short-term goals for the department and college.
- Maintains and enters student data into the Alabama Adult Education System for Accountability and Performance (AAESAP).
- Perform other duties as required by the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- At least 3 years of full-time experience as an instructor.
- Experience working with computers and software
- At least 1 to 2 years of full-time experience as an instructor/teacher with experience in Adult Education
- Experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Access.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to use instructional technology.
- Able to work well with others in an innovative team environment and must be willing to continuously participate in professional development activities.

Sick Leave
All regular full-time instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is equivalent to 7 hours per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. The TRS is a defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. All regular full-time and part-time employees (non-temporary and non- student) who work at least 20 hours per week are required to participate in The Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama.
Tier I - Pays 7.50% monthly. State matches 13.57% (effective 10/01/24)
