JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Substitute School Nurse
Districtwide
Term of Employment: As Need Basis
Immediate Supervisor: Building Level Principal
Qualifications: LPN or RN Licensure
Evaluation: Conducted by the building level administrators and Central Office supervisory staff.
Skills:
- Be a mature individual
- Have basic health assessment skills
- Have the ability to conform to an established work schedule
- Have effective interpersonal skills
- Have the ability to communicate in a concise and effective manner
- Have the ability to understand and follow instructions precisely
- Have the ability to exercise tact, discretion and confidentiality
- Have the ability to work with students
- Have the ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without the loss of efficiency or composure.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:
- Covering a school or schools when one of the full-time nurses are absent.
- Daily medication administration to students
- Basic health assessments as needed
Physical Requirements:
Must have the ability to:
- In case of an emergency, must be able to lift or assist in lifting a student in need
- Work outdoors in any variety of weather
- Repetitive bending, stretching, and stooping
- Have mobility required to ensure the safety of students
- Have visual and hearing capabilities that allow consistent supervision of students
- Provide extra assistance to students with special needs, such as non-English-speaking students or those with physical and mental disabilities
