Position Overview
Trevor Day School is seeking a full-time Director of Human Resources to lead and manage all human resources (HR) functions across the school. This key leadership role involves overseeing the school’s compensation, employee benefits, recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and legal compliance. The Director will provide strategic guidance on HR matters, cultivating a positive work environment, and proactively supporting employee well-being.
Core Responsibilities

Full Employee Lifecycle Management: In consultation with the Division Directors and other members of the academic and administrative leadership teams, support all stages of the employee lifecycle, including talent recruitment, acquisition, onboarding, career development, training, retention, and succession planning.

Cultivating Open Communication: Build strong, trusting relationships across the school to encourage a culture of transparency and open communication between employees and HR.

Benefits Administration: Oversee employee benefits programs, organize open enrollment sessions, and provide recommendations for adjustments to the benefits package.

Employee Relations: Serve as the main point of contact for staff concerning HR-related issues, including complaints, accommodations, and leave requests, in collaboration with leadership.

Employee Handbook Maintenance: Ensure the school’s employee manuals are up-to-date, reflecting the current policies, procedures, and legal requirements.

Performance Management: Help design and implement systems for performance reviews and employee recognition for administrative staff.

Disciplinary Guidance: Provide counsel to the leadership team regarding employee discipline, ensuring legal compliance in consultation with the Head of School and school’s legal counsel, as required.

Exit and Separation Management: Manage the process for both voluntary and involuntary employee separations, conducting exit interviews and gathering feedback.

Building Community: Demonstrated commitment to and experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives that promote a strong school culture.

Compensation Strategy: Partner with the CFO and Head of School to develop and sustain competitive compensation and benefits strategies that align with market trends.

Policy Review & Compliance: Continuously assess the school’s employment practices for legal compliance and recommend new or updated policies, as needed.

Retirement Plans Oversight: Work alongside the CFO and other Business Office staff to manage the school’s retirement plans, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.

Risk Management: Contribute to the school’s overall risk management strategies, proactively identifying and mitigating HR-related risks.

Staying Informed on HR Best Practices: Continuously monitor HR trends, legal requirements, regulatory updates, and technological advancements, sharing valuable insights and recommendations with the leadership team. Be proactive in providing HR-specific expertise to all relevant stakeholders.
Qualifications

A Master’s degree (MA/MS) in Human Resources Management or a related field is preferred.

A minimum of five years of senior HR experience, ideally within the educational sector.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate difficult conversations and resolve conflicts while building rapport across teams.

Exceptional organizational skills with keen attention to detail.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Proven leadership and experience managing teams.

Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

Comprehensive understanding of employment laws, including EEO, ERISA, ADA, Workers’ Compensation, FMLA, PFL, HIPAA, and OSHA.

Proficient in HR best practices, policies, and procedures.

Familiarity with HRIS systems and the ability to analyze HR-related data.

SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification is preferred.
Compensation & Benefits

Competitive salary range between $80,000 and $130,000.
