Manufacturing Technician
The Manufacturing Technician is responsible for supporting Trew’s production operation to improve final product quality and overall efficiency. The role’s primary responsibility is to identify opportunities for improvement and develop / implement solutions. The Manufacturing Technician will ensure that products meet technical specifications, quality standards, and efficient production flow. The Manufacturing Technician will mentor the production teams regarding process, tools, quality, and efficient workflow. This role requires attention to detail, continuous improvement mindset, adherence to safety and quality guidelines, and ability to work well in a team environment. Manufacturing Technicians possess a diverse hands-on skillset and contribute to process improvement, training, work instructions, standard work, final quality, and continuous improvement.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Continuous Improvement: Review and analyze processes to identify waste and develop solutions to improve efficiency of manufacturing processes, material handling, and packaging procedures. Identify quality defects and contribute in the development of corrective actions. Assist in the design / implementation of jigs, fixtures, and quality gauges.
- Equipment Operation: Train and mentor others on the use of hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment to safely and accurately complete assembly tasks.
- Documentation: Develop work instructions, assembly aids, quality bulletins to document company procedures, standard work, and best practices.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and report any issues with components or assembly processes, working with engineers, supervisors, and production leads to implement solutions.
- Training and Development: Provide training to production staff on product standards, best practices, and inspection techniques to promote quality awareness and improvement.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Participate in safety training and hazard awareness. Be a positive influence on safety culture.
- Workplace Maintenance: Lead and contribute to workplace 5S initiatives to keep workstations, tools, and equipment organized, clean, and well-maintained.
Required Skills / Abilities
- Must have advanced mechanical assembly skills and the ability to train others on the proper assembly of mechanical, electrical, or electronic components and subassemblies as per technical drawings, blueprints, or work instructions.
- Ability to read and interpret complex drawings, schematics, bill of materials, and technical documents.
- Must possess excellent problem solving and communication skills, strong attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must have a good understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.
Education & Experience
- Associate’s degree in an engineering or manufacturing discipline (MET, EET, Electro-Mechanical, Mechatronics, Advanced Manufacturing, or similar).
- -OR-
- 5 years manufacturing experience in a large-scale production environment
- 3D modeling and/or CAD/CAM experience is a plus.
- Bi-lingual English / Spanish is a bonus.
- Ability to work in environments with varying temperatures, noise, and exposure to chemicals.
- Capability to perform repetitive tasks with precision and accuracy.
Work Environment
The work environment may include exposure to manufacturing machinery and potentially noisy conditions. It will involve exposure to materials-handling equipment, the need to stand for extended periods, the need to follow safety protocols, and the requirement to lift and move heavy objects. The temperature inside a warehouse can vary. Some warehouses are climate-controlled, while others may not be.
Physical Requirements
- The teammate will frequently lift on average 30lbs throughout the course of a shift, ability to lift up 50 lbs occasionally.
- The teammate will be required to stand for extended periods of time.
- The teammate will be required to frequently bend and/ or twist throughout the course of a shift.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity are often necessary, especially for tasks like for assembly of smaller components.
- The teammate will engage in continuous repetitive motions, including hand, wrist, and arm movements, as part of daily tasks.
