Behavioral Health Educator and Outreach Worker - Carroll County, VA
This position is primarily responsible for working with students in grades Pre-K through 5 and employees of Carroll County Public Schools, as well as interacting with community members and organizations regarding the behavioral health of youth. This person will provide assistance and training to school employees, health education to students and family members, and outreach to the community. This is a full-time, year-round position (40 hours per week), which may include occasional evenings and weekends. Although some work may occur in Tri-Area Community Health clinics, most of the duties for this position will be performed in the schools and community. The coverage area includes seven elementary schools throughout Carroll County and daily travel is anticipated (mileage will be reimbursed).
Job Requirements
- An associate degree in human services is required for this position with preference given to those holding a bachelor's degree in human services or education.
- Two years of work experience in education, health care, or human services is required.
- Knowledge of behavioral health, positive attitude toward persons with behavioral health concerns, and willingness to work with youth who have behavioral health issues is required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact professionally and gain trust with culturally diverse individuals, are required.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism is required.
- Computer skills are required.
- Access to reliable transportation is required.
- Successful completion of a satisfactory background check is required.
- Prior experience in a health educator and/or in an outreach worker or similar role is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with the service area is strongly preferred.
Pay is based on education and experience.
