Job Overview:
The Tri Boro Credit Union is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Controller to join its team. As a key member of the finance department, this individual will be responsible for assisting the Controller in managing all financial and accounting activities within the credit union.
About the Role:
Assist the Controller in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial reports, including monthly-end reports, Board reports, and Asset Liability Management reports.
Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas of improvement, providing recommendations for process enhancements.
Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and internal controls related to operational and accounting functions, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Oversee the month-end closing process, reviewing financial statements, general ledger accounts, accruals, prepaids, and reconciliations.
Manage vendor and operational expenses, evaluating costs to ensure alignment with approved proposals, contracts, and agreements.
Coordinate tax reporting, including proof review of member 1099 and 1098 tax documentation.
Support the management of the credit union's investment portfolio.
Provide assistance during annual and regulatory audits and exams, collecting requested documentation.
Cross-train to backup departmental work and support workflow as needed.
Qualifications:
5-10 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in the credit union or banking industry.
Bachelor's Degree in accounting required.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with attention to detail and accuracy.
Well organized with the ability to prioritize and multitask to meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
