Buildings and Grounds/Custodial Staff
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma
2. Ability to perform physical labor, including bending, lifting a minimum of 50 pounds, climbing ladders, pushing-pulling, standing, walking, driving, carrying, reaching, etc.
3. Tactful and pleasant in dealing with staff, students, and community.
4. Collaborative with staff in daily operations and scheduling of maintenance.
REPORTS TO:
District Buildings and Grounds Director
JOB GOAL:
To work under the direction of the Buildings and Grounds Director in maintaining the daily operations and district’s facilities/grounds.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Professionalism
· Maintain a pleasant and courteous atmosphere in the district in dealing with the public, employees, and students.
· Handles all confidential information with proper discretion.
· Supports and implements the goals of the Board of Education.
Communication
· Communicates and collaborates with Buildings and Grounds Director and District administration on all maintenance needs of the district.
· Reports to the Buildings and Grounds Director concerning damage or loss of school property.
· Responds appropriately to requests for information.
· Submits all reports required by the State or district office.
· Places and receives phone calls, as needed, to maintain the district facilities and grounds.
Buildings and Grounds-related Duties
· Implement procedures to keep all district facilities and grounds safe, neat, and clean.
· Conduct building checks on weekends to ensure proper functioning of mechanical systems (i.e., boiler checks, plumbing system, etc.)
· Works to regulate district HVAC systems to provide appropriate temperatures for the seasons and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
· Operates district equipment or shovels snow, plows, and sands walks, driveways, parking areas and steps, as needed.
· Assists to ensure that all exit doors are opened and/or locked, as needed.
· Assists in keeping the district grounds free of litter and rubbish.
· Performs grounds-keeping responsibilities, such as mowing, weeding, tree trimming, necessary to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
· Assists in maintaining all district floors keeping them in a clean and attractive condition.
· Assists in the repair of all district facilities, whether performing the work or assisting the retention of others to complete the tasks.
· Performs on a regular schedule all motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled service.
· Monitors district inventories of maintenance and custodial supplies and requisitions necessary replacements in advance to prevent a hindrance to the operation of the district.
· Moves furniture and equipment within the district as required for various activities.
· Assists in ensuring compliance of the district with the law concerning the storage and disposal of trash, waste, and/or hazardous materials.
· Performs plumbing and electrical work, as needed, in the district, not to exceed his/her level of expertise and certification.
· Receives and distributes deliveries in the district to their assigned locations.
· Other duties as assigned by the Buildings and Grounds Director.
Terms of Employment: Twelve-months/260 days, as determined by the Superintendent.
Salary/Benefits: $15 per hour, with future increases to be determined by the Board of Education on an annual basis. District-paid IMRF. $650 paid toward health insurance coverage. 10 Sick Days and 2 Personal Days.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Buildings and Grounds Director.
