Position Summary: We are seeking a compassionate, certified, and experienced Chair Yoga Instructor to lead chair yoga classes for individuals who may have limited mobility, physical challenges, or those seeking a gentle and accessible form of yoga. The ideal candidate will create a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for students of all ages and abilities, guiding them through seated and standing yoga postures that promote flexibility, strength, and relaxation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Chair Yoga Classes: Design and teach chair yoga sessions for diverse groups, including seniors, individuals with disabilities, and those recovering from injuries. Provide modifications and adjustments as needed.
- Personalized Instruction: Tailor instruction to meet the specific needs of individuals, ensuring that participants are practicing safely and effectively.
- Create Class Plans: Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans that include breathwork, gentle stretches, strengthening exercises, and relaxation techniques.
- Foster a Supportive Environment: Encourage a positive, inclusive atmosphere that promotes physical and mental well-being. Help students build confidence and mindfulness in their practice.
- Monitor Participant Progress: Observe participants during class to provide feedback and adjustments, ensuring safe execution of poses and offering encouragement and support.
- Maintain Class Safety: Ensure all exercises and movements are safe for participants, adapting poses to accommodate limitations.
- Provide Instruction on Breathing Techniques: Educate students on the importance of breathing in yoga and guide them through techniques to reduce stress, improve focus, and enhance relaxation.
- Maintain Professional Development: Stay up-to-date with current trends in yoga, physical health, and wellness, as well as any certifications or continuing education relevant to chair yoga or adaptive fitness.
- Administer Participant Intake Forms: Collect relevant medical information or physical limitations from students to ensure classes are tailored to their abilities and safety.
- Customer Service: Provide excellent communication and support to students, answering questions about class content, schedule, or general wellness advice.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience teaching chair yoga or similar modalities to individuals with mobility limitations, chronic pain, or other physical challenges.
- Strong understanding of anatomy and modifications for diverse body types and abilities.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with participants from diverse backgrounds and experience levels.
- Compassionate, patient, and approachable demeanor.
- Knowledge of health and safety standards and an ability to modify practices to prevent injury.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications in geriatric fitness, adaptive yoga, or other therapeutic modalities.
- Experience working with specific populations such as seniors, individuals with disabilities, or those in rehabilitation.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to demonstrate and guide yoga poses, both seated and standing, as well as assist participants in the proper alignment of movements.
- Ability to lift and arrange yoga equipment, if necessary.
