The Tri-County Arts Council (TCAC) promotes creation and experience of arts and culture within the Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Chautauqua Counties region.
Organizational Overview:
The Tri-County Arts Council is an expanding, dynamic organization based in a newly renovated facility in downtown Olean, NY. Our state-of-the-art space includes a gallery, artisan market, offices, studio space, and a ceramic studio. With a commitment to expanding access to the arts, TCAC supports regional artists and arts organizations through education, service, and outreach. For over 20 years, we have provided direct support in Cattaraugus County, and recently extended our outreach to Allegany and Chautauqua counties. As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced and visionary Executive Director to guide the organization through its next phase of development.
Position Description:
The Executive Director (ED) will lead the Tri-County Arts Council in fulfilling its mission across Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Chautauqua Counties. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will oversee the organization’s financial health, including fundraising, grant acquisition, and the implementation of Board directives. The ED will provide strategic leadership, manage day-to-day operations, and supervise staff and volunteers. This role is critical in ensuring the sustainability and continued success of the organization.
Primary Responsibilities:
Fundraising and Financial Sustainability
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy.
- Cultivate and expand the donor base, identifying opportunities for membership growth and sponsorships.
- Collaborate with the Board to explore investment and endowment opportunities.
- Stay informed on trends in arts and nonprofit management to maximize the organization’s community impact.
Grant Writing and Administration
- Research and secure grants from local, regional, and national government entities, corporations, foundations, and individual donors.
- Ensure the timely submission of state and federal reports, forms, and applications.
- Prepare and distribute the organization’s annual report.
Administrative and Financial Leadership
- Lead the Board in developing and implementing a vision for the organization’s future, ensuring progress toward strategic goals.
- Oversee the organization’s corporate records, contracts, and compliance with legal responsibilities.
- Coordinate and support Board and committee meetings, providing necessary reports and recommendations.
- Supervise the recruitment, development, and performance management of staff and volunteers.
Relationship Building
- Design and promote inclusive arts programs, services, and resources for residents, artists, and arts organizations in the region.
- Serve as the primary liaison to county governments, the New York State Council on the Arts, and other stakeholders.
- Act as the primary spokesperson for the organization, engaging with members, artists, nonprofits, businesses, media, and government officials.
- Partner with the Board to recruit and develop new Board members.
Advocacy and Communications
- Advocate for the arts and the region’s cultural resources to the public, policymakers, and funders.
- Position TCAC as a catalyst for economic development and community revitalization.
- Oversee the maintenance of the organization’s website, newsletter, and other publications.
- Regularly update the Board on organizational operations, programs, and key issues.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Passion for the arts and deep commitment to the Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Chautauqua Counties region.
- Proven administrative experience in nonprofit management, including a successful track record in grant writing, fundraising, marketing, financial management, and strategic planning.
- Strong ability to exercise independent judgment while advising and taking direction from the Board of Directors.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and public speaking skills.
- Flexibility to work standard office hours, with availability for evenings and weekends as needed.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, accounting software, point-of-sale systems, and web maintenance tools.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel locally and regionally.
- Ability to work in an office environment and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
