To be considered for this role, applicants must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. and at least one year of experience in a mental health or addictions treatment setting. Certification as a Certified Peer Specialist within one year of initiating this position is also mandatory. Applicants should demonstrate a solid understanding of addictions treatment and/or mental health programs and supportive services, as well as knowledge of causes, nature, and treatment of substance abuse and/or mental health problems.

Main Duties
- Provide input from a consumer's perspective, contributing to the transformation of community services.
- Attend community forums addressing substance abuse and mental health concerns, serving as a sounding board for individuals' issues and concerns.
- Assist in developing recovery objectives that meet individual progress toward goals, promoting hope and empowerment for those in need.
- Identify areas within service delivery needing improvement, working collaboratively with colleagues to implement positive change.
- Promote understanding of life experiences and their effects on functioning, encouraging clients to take an active role in their recovery.
- Develop rapport with individuals involved in the criminal justice system or experiencing addiction, mental health issues, or behavioral/emotional difficulties.
- Facilitate enrollment in services provided by community behavioral health providers, ensuring seamless transitions and access to necessary support.
- Lend unique insight into mental illness and recovery possibilities, serving as a valuable resource for clients and colleagues alike.
- Support peer groups using the Illness Management and Recovery model, fostering a sense of community and connection among participants.
- Collaborate with clinicians when needs fall outside their area of competency, ensuring comprehensive care and effective problem-solving.
- Maintain a personal recovery plan, including identified strengths, needs, abilities, and goals, staying focused on personal growth and development.
