Description : Position Summary :
Responsible for assisting physicians and mid-level providers in providing patient care through prescription refills and medication authorizations.
Principal Responsibilites :
1. Demonstrates knowledge of the organization’s mission and core values and incorporates them into the performance of duties at Tri-County Orthopedics.
2. Answer and return calls, messages and voicemails to patients, pharmacies, prescription drug carriers and providers.
3. Obtain authorizations via payer websites, by phone or via fax and follow up regularly on pending cases
4. Initiate appeals for denied medications and services.
5. Respond to clinical questions regarding medications, prior authorizations, etc.
6. Confirm accuracy of CPT and ICD-10 diagnosis codes for medication orders and prior authorizations
7. Maintain individual files to include up to date requirements needed to successfully obtain authorizations
8. Prioritize incoming authorization requests according to urgency
9. Review chart documentation thoroughly for accuracy and confirmation of medications that are prescribed and to ensure
10. Perform other related duties as needed by providers and supervisors
11. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure proper medication management
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proficient use of CPT and ICD-10 Diagnosis Codes
- Understanding of medication interactions, prescribing information, pharmaceutical medical policies and substitutions
- Working well with a team as well as autonomous work
- Detail oriented with organizational skills
- Excellent customer service skills; communicates clearly and effectively
- Ability to multitask and remain focused while managing a high-volume, time-sensitive workload
