What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paraprofessional - Special Education position at Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School?
Under the general direction of the Teacher, the Paraprofessional – Special Education will provide classroom and student support by various means, dependent upon the needs of the students. The Paraprofessional collaborates with specialist(s) and classroom teacher(s) to deliver the necessary specialized instruction, curriculum modification and classroom accommodation needed for students to access curriculum frameworks.
In general, the Paraprofessional – Special Ed:
1. Provides overall support to the classroom teacher(s) and student(s), based on the needs of the classroom and the students’ Individual Education Program (IEP) and 504 Plans, if applicable;
2. Assists classroom teacher(s) and specialist(s) in preparing lessons and related materials;
3. Incorporates knowledge of student learning styles, child development, skills/knowledge acquisition rates of the student(s) to whom assigned, to assist student learning. Observes and records academic, behavioral and social data to measure progress;
4. Recognizes when teaching/learning and behavioral strategies are not successful and seeks the guidance of the classroom teacher(s) and specialist(s) to adapt assistance accordingly;
5. If assignment requires, provides direct assistance to students to manage personal care;
6. Provides support in crisis situations when necessary;
7. Other duties, as required
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work involves student interaction, and is performed primarily in a classroom setting and vocational shop setting. Extended periods of walking, standing, bending, and stooping to assist student, may be necessary.
