Who You Are: The Practical Nursing SIM Instructor (PN) prepares adult students for an exciting career as a practical nurse, medical assistant, certified nurse aide, or many health-related careers. In these programs, students learn practical skills through classroom theory, simulations, and clinical application. The instructor teaches skills in the classroom that are applied in clinical settings such as hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and long-term care facilities, as well as physician offices, hospices, and other healthcare settings.
What You'll Possess
As a qualified candidate:
- You'll possess a bachelor's Degree from an approved school of Nursing. A Master's Degree is preferred.
- You’ll possess a Registered Nurses (non-encumbered) license in the state of Oklahoma.
- You’ll possess a Certified Heathcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) certification or be willing to obtain within the first year of employment.
- You’ll possess a minimum of two years of related work experience within the last five years.
- You’ll be CPR certified.
- You’ll have familiarity with current nursing practices and procedures.
- You’ll have familiarity with andragogy and the training and development of others.
- You are detail-oriented and organized.
- You'll strive to exceed expectations and have excellent communication skills.
- You'll take the initiative, seek out projects, and openly accept other duties as assigned.
- You continually look for ways to improve your skillset and are always open to receiving feedback.
What You'll Do
Instructors plan and deliver high-level, rigorous instruction to students in a trade area. They are technical experts in a given field/ area of specialty with the ability to teach leadership and employability skills. They understand the concept of andragogy and pedagogy and the learner's motivation while displaying patience and enthusiasm to help their students meet their goals. Instructors are lifelong learners who can adapt easily to meet the needs of their students. They manage multiple projects with self-directed deadline-driven accountability. They are high-functioning professionals, applying the use of discretion and independent judgment while maintaining ultimate accountability.
Essential Functions:
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that meet the district's curriculum goals as well as the individual needs of each student.
- Coordinate and evaluate on-the-job training as applicable for students.
- Translate lesson plans into learning experiences that effectively utilize the available time for instruction.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare reports relating to students' progress.
- Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Select and requisition books and instructional aids; maintain required inventory records.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot simulation equipment and SIM supplies inventory.
- Develop and support a simulation calendar, scenarios, activities, and professional development for healthcare programs and faculty.
- Develop and encourage a viable student organization for his/her area.
- Participate in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities and equipment.
- Establish and/or maintain an active advisory committee as per ODCTE requirements.
- Work with industry to ensure students are able to find and maintain employment.
- Other Job-Related Duties as Assigned by the Supervisor: The omission of duties does not exclude it from the position if similar, related, or a logical assignment to the job. In other words, you'll be helping out on spontaneous projects and opportunities not listed above.

Terms of Employment: Ten months; salary to be established by the Board of Education.
