Job Responsibilities
Position Description:
Under limited supervision, the Financial Aid Specialist helps students by providing excellent service that follows the College's rules and national and regional guidelines. The Financial Aid Specialist will understand how the College works and have a basic understanding of other campus functions, especially the knowledge needed to support TC Central. The employee works closely with other student service teams to make sure students receive smooth and helpful support. They ensure that all interactions with students consider their entire experience at the College and their personal growth to help them succeed.
Job Duties:
- Manage and respond to all escalated/tier two financial aid emails and phone calls, delivering top level customer service and information to all requests providing proactive, timely, accurate, and thorough customer service to students. Provide support to TC Central via information and by responding to escalations in an efficient and effective manner.
- Provide FAFSA help for students who come to TC Central for assistance. Assist with the creation and offering of events related to financial aid, enrollment, orientations, financial literacy and other duties as assigned.
- Using knowledge of current financial aid policies and procedures, the Financial Aid Specialist helps review paperwork that comes into and leaves the financial aid office, working with other departments like TC Central, Bridge, Community Campuses, and iBEST. Asks for extra information or documents when applications are missing details or don’t match, to reduce incomplete forms and speed up the review process. The Financial Aid Specialist also prepares the finished paperwork for scanning and saving in the student’s electronic file.
- The Financial Aid Specialist is trained to understand the work in other areas like Financial Aid, Admissions, and the Registrar's Office. They help out by providing support when needed, either in person, by email, or on the phone, to assist with the one-stop student services and the different departments that work together.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent; experience with customer service and records management in a multi-tasking environment preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
The employee should be good at working in a busy environment with many tasks at once and be able to work both on their own and with a team. They should know how to handle conflicts and solve problems by asking questions, organizing, researching, analyzing, and understanding information. Strong customer service skills are important, along with the ability to give clear and helpful information in a friendly and polite way. The employee should also be good at writing and speaking, and be able to adjust how they communicate to meet the needs of different people.
