Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations of our real estate development company. The Controller will report directly to the President and will play a key role in the organization by overseeing all accounting functions, financial planning, and reporting. This position requires expertise in tax planning, budgeting, and a working knowledge of property management software, with a preference for candidates experienced in Yardi.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all general accounting functions, including accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Supervise payroll processing to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable laws.
- Prepare accurate and timely month-end and year-end financial statements and reconciliations.
- Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and financial models to support organizational goals.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and oversee tax planning and filings.
- Manage cash flow, financial risk, and investment planning.
- Implement and maintain effective accounting systems, policies, and internal controls.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to the President for strategic decision-making.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions as necessary.
- Utilize property management software to maintain accurate records and generate reports, ensuring data integrity.
- Provide guidance and support to finance team members, fostering professional development.
Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within the real estate development or property management sector.
- Excellent financial acumen with the ability to interpret financial data.
- Experience with property management software; Yardi software experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of tax regulations, GAAP, and financial reporting standards.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong knowledge of accounts receivable processes and account reconciliation techniques.
- Familiarity with payroll systems and compliance regulations.
- Background in public accounting is a plus.
