JOB SUMMARY
The incumbent of this role is responsible for the operation of Pilot Plant equipment, including the following: The Faustel/Egan laminator/3- layer extruder, Pilot Plant slitter, Edge-Pull Unwind, resin dryer and resin mixer. This role is responsible for producing trial material or small production orders on the equipment with direction from an engineer and an approved trial document.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct trials on pilot equipment; assist with trials on production equipment; record trial activities;material usage; and lab results in database
- Maintain good housekeeping of pilot plant facilities
- Communicating with development engineers
- Obtain raw materials and cylinders
- Manage raw material, finished trail material, cylinder, and roller inventories
- Perform hazardous waste management and record keeping
- Perform basic lab testing
- Take rolls on an off unwinds and rewinds
- Mix resins, drain poly hoppers, and change resins
- Change die adaptor
- Set up and change doctor blades, cylinders, impression rolls, and nip rolls.
- Teflon tape rubber laminating nips rolls
- Set web guides and align material
- Adjust extruder rpm’s to maintain target weights and layer ratios
- Shim die and clean die lip
- Adjust die bolts to produce flat sheet
- Start and stop machine(s)
- Set up, clean, and tear down adhesive station
- Prepare and change screen packs
- Install and remove drool stick
- Perform extruder cold start and shut down
- Set up slitter
- Properly label material an pack material for shipment
- The Company maintains the right to revise and/or add duties in response to business requirements
- Perform related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school Diploma required: AAS, Technical Certificate or equivalent work experience preferred
- Prior laminating and/or extruding experience required
- Prior slitting experience highly desirable Strong PC skills (Mainframe, Lotus Notes, Word, Excel)
- Co-extrusion experience is required
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work with a variety of people and departments
- Self-motivated and show initiative
- Must be able to demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude, measuring and instrumentation skills
- Able to disassemble and clean co-extrusion die
- Working knowledge of co-extrusion and experienced changing combining adapters.
- Basic understanding of inks and printability
- Understanding of how to measure and adjust viscosity
- Experience changing cylinder, impression rolls, and nip rolls
- Able to interpret lab data and make the appropriate process adjustments
- Experience setting and adjust extruder coating and laminating weight
- Working knowledge of profile control and die adjustment
- Capable of setting process parameters based on SOP and MOP
- Knowledge of different polymer resins and their melt temperatures
- Knowledge of purge procedures
- Good understanding of die care and maintenance
- Prepare, clean, and change screen pack and coex adapter
- Able to install and remove drool stick
- Ability to use mathematical conversion factors to convert various units of measure
- Knowledge of appropriate web path(s) for assigned machine(s)
- Ability to change and set knives and ledgers
- Knowledge of correct knife and ledger storage
- Ability to set unwind and rewind tensions, eye sensors, splice detectors, and web guides
- Working knowledge of hoist operation
- Working knowledge of trim system
- Ability to oil and lube assigned machine(s) as necessary
- Ability to operate core cutters as necessary
- Ability to identify defective materials
- Knowledge of the proper personal protective equipment ( P.P.E.) required for the job
- Knowledge of Tri-Seal/Tekni-Plex Safety & Health Rules
- Knowledge of LOTO procedures
- Knowledge of job specific work instructions documents
- Successful Completion of Reading & Math Test
- Successful Completion of IVO certification training. ( Industrial Vehicle Operator )
- Successful Completion of JSA reading. ( Job Safety and Health Analysis)
- Successful Completion of GMP ( Good Manufacturing Practices)
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Four day work week 7:00AM – 5:00 PM
- Must be able to work some Fridays when required
- Air conditioned facility/Proper PPE Required/No Earplugs Required
