JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

  • The Director of Terminal Operations is responsible for managing all aspects of terminal operations, including staff management, logistics coordination, warehouse operation, safety compliance and customer service.
  • The Director of Terminal Operations is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to improve terminal performance.
  • The Director of Terminal Operations will ensure that all terminal activities are conducted in a safe, efficient, cost-effective manner and that all operational tasks and processes are completed accurately and on time.
  • The Director of Terminal Operations is responsible for adding new customers and maintaining the existing customer base.
  • The Director of Terminal Operations is responsible for ensuring that the company meets or exceeds the gross revenue goals and gross profit margin goals that have been established by the President / CEO.
  • The Director of Terminal Operations is responsible for the accurate and timely sales reporting of the sales position of the company to the President / CEO including but not limited to sales forecasting, sales analysis, and budget preparation.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Director of Terminal Operations reports directly to and is fully accountable to the CEO hereafter referred to as Manager and reports indirectly to the CFO and COO.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience :

  • Requires a High School Diploma.
  • Strongly Preferred : A bachelors degree in Transportation, Logistics or Supply Chain Management)

  • Required : Minimum of 4 years of experience in terminal management or a similar role.
  • Required : Minimum of 5 years experience in the Transportation, Freight, Supply Chain and / or Logistics Industry
  • Required : Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Dispatcher in the transportation / freight industry.
  • Required : Minimum of 3 years of container Intermodal Dispatch experience.
  • Required : Minimum of 3 years of experience working with owner operators.
  • Required : Minimum of 3 years of port and rail experience.
  • Required : Proficient computer skills that include Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word
  • Required : Valid driver license
  • Skills / Abilities :

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS

  • Oversee daily terminal operations to ensure efficiency and safety.
  • Manage terminal staff effectively, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Perform all Dispatcher duties.
  • Coordinate, schedule and dispatch local, OTR and intermodal transportation loads to ensure timely and accurate deliveries / pick-ups.
  • Process and input workorders and print dispatch sheets for drivers.
  • Locate loads, empties.
  • Check releases in the port rail system.
  • Release equipment.
  • Update systems as needed.
  • Monitor and answer emails hourly.
  • Prepare daily drop and dispatch report.
  • Review and monitor daily reports in web applications.
  • Process driver settlements correctly and on time.
  • Process demurrage / per diem.
  • Process assessorial charges / billing authorizations.
  • Process tire bills.
  • Process and understand swing orders and renting a chassis.
  • Monitor yard report for containers LFD.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve terminal performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of terminal activities and prepare reports as needed.
  • Monitor terminal budget and control costs.
  • Resolve any issues or conflicts that arise in terminal operations.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless operations.
  • Conduct regular inspections of terminal facilities and equipment.
  • Implement and enforce standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by addressing any concerns or complaints. Ensure that all customer complaints are acted upon quickly and the results are monitored.
  • Maintain credibility.
  • Plan and coordinate terminal activities to meet operational goals.
  • Monitor and analyze terminal performance metrics.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and repair of terminal equipment.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with customers, coworkers, vendors, and the business community.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Manage inventory and ensure proper storage of goods.
  • Coordinate emergency response activities as needed.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of company and customer records.
  • Thoroughly think through and refer to company values and company policies before making decisions.
  • Always represent TSFS in a professional demeanor.
  • Complete and perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    This position will be working indoors, outdoors and in a warehouse environment.

  • This position will be working primarily indoors in a climate-controlled, smoke-free office environment.
  • The noise level in the indoors work environment is usually moderate.
  • This position will also be working outdoors and in a warehouse environment. From this movement (indoors, outdoors and warehouse), the employee will encounter varying weather conditions and temperatures.
  • The employee must be able to work outside in variable weather conditions including high-temperature summer months.
  • The noise level in the outdoor and warehouse work environment is higher.
