What are the responsibilities and job description for the Local Company Truck Driver position at Tri Star Freight System?
Tri Star Freight System, Inc., a leader in the transportation/trucking industry, is looking for a Local Company Driver to join our Norfolk, VA team!
Additionally, we offer our drivers a $2,500 Sign-On Bonus – paid in increments (60, 120, 180 and 365 days) and a very competitive benefits package that includes 100% Company Paid Profit Sharing and much more.
Reporting Relationships:
The Local Company Driver reports directly to and is fully accountable to the Director of Terminal Operations hereafter referred to as Manager and reports indirectly to the dispatcher.
Education and Experience qualifications/requirements:
- Required: High School Diploma
- Required: Valid Class A – CDL
- Required: A minimum of 2 years’ Tractor-trailer operation
- Required: A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Local Truck Driver
- Required: A minimum of 2 years' experience with port and rail container pick-up and delivery
- Required: Acceptable motor vehicle record (specific requirements may vary)
- Required: Must pass drug and other pre-employment requirements
- Required: TWIC Card holder (unexpired)
- Preferred: In addition if applicant has flatbed experience it is a plus
We do not accept SAP drivers or drivers that have ever been a part of the SAP program
Essential Duties and Tasks:
- Deliver containers to and from the port and rails to customers and our warehouse.
- Deliver products to our customers in a safe, courteous, and timely manner.
- You must be hard-working, team-oriented, friendly, honest, and have great customer service skills.
- As directed, in an accurate and in a timely manner, deliver all goods within the expected timeframe, or before and make most effective use of their time and talent.
- Utilize the company and department policies, and procedures, and meet specific objectives or as directed by the Supervisor.
- Follow Company and department work rules and regulations as established.
- Must always have a safety mindset and be aware of surroundings.
- Punches in on time, is available and ready for work at the beginning of the shift.
- Perform Pre and Post trip truck inspection prior and after operation and log/document results.
- Drive to and from customer premises without incident.
- Follow accident procedures.
- Keep an activity log and log hours.
- Report all mechanical problems to maintenance personnel immediately upon discovery.
- Confirm with dispatcher/supervisor to plan out your day.
- Plan routes using GPS system.
- Deliver goods to the client on time.
- Maintain a positive, cooperative, and professional attitude with customers, co-workers, vendors, and the business community.
- Keep commercial driver license Class-A up to date.
- Load and unload cargo.
- Record cargo deliveries.
- Refuel and clean vehicle.
- Report all incidents and accidents to the Terminal Manager, Dispatcher and Safety Director immediately.
- Follow all traffic laws.
- Ensure that all safety and DOT regulations are being adhered to.
- Ensure that all necessary tasks are completed before the end of the shift.
- Must comply with all company policies, rules, and regulations.
- Have good housekeeping habits and always ensure the cleanliness of the truck.
- Observe all federal, state, local and DOT laws and regulations and document processes as required.
- Always maintains truck/vehicle in good, clean and safe condition.
- Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
