We are currently expanding our organization and looking for an experienced controller to join our team!

JOB SUMMARY:

This supervisory position is responsible for helping the CFO lead the day-to-day operations of the accounting department and assisting with the successful achievement of ongoing financial reporting deadlines. Responsibilities also include planning, organizing, and leading projects focused on process improvements, automation, and other corporate quality initiatives. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of United Leasing & Finance and will currently manage a direct report.

JOB DUTIES:

1. Financial Statement Preparation

  • Assist with preparation of internal and external financial statements for Tri-State Aero, United Leasing, Inc., and other subsidiaries of United Companies.
  • Assist with preparation of annual budgets and ongoing budget-to-actual variances.
  • Supervise and oversee all aspects of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable.
  • Review monthly portfolio schedules for borrowing base reporting.

2. General Accounting

  • Oversee completion and review of account reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly accruals and related journal entries, as assigned.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain workpapers and deliverables for external auditors.
  • Prepare ad-hoc financial reporting and analysis, as assigned.
  • Maintain desk manuals for accounting processes, as assigned.
  • Monitor and develop internal controls to minimize financial risk and identify areas of opportunity to better safeguard assets.

3. Project Management and Leadership

  • Provide accounting expertise and training the accounting staff on a consistent basis.
  • Oversee and/or lead projects outlined in business plan goals.
  • Participate in cross-departmental projects, as assigned, or needed.

4. Supervision & People Development

  • Effectively build, supervise, and develop talent to support a performance culture within the department.
  • Closely supervise employees, utilizing 1-on-1 meetings and Subject & Actions accountability standards.
  • Conduct timely performance appraisals for employees. Ensure timely submission and monitoring of annual business plan goals for yourself and your direct reports. Ensure team members achieve minimum annual training requirements, as appropriate.

5. General

  • Ensure prompt and regular attendance.
  • Perform other appropriate duties as may be assigned by Management.
  • Travel as business needs may require.

  • Participate in and promote the established Quality Improvement Process (QIP) for continuous improvement.

  • Attend at least ten (10) credit hours of training annually to continue development of work-related skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
  • CPA (strong preference) and/or MBA required.

2. Experience:

  • 5 years of progressive accounting experience is preferred.
  • Prior supervisory/people management experience is preferred.

3. Skills & Abilities:

  • Background and working knowledge and application of GAAP.
  • Project management experience.
  • Leadership and people management/supervisory experience.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as working within and extracting data/reporting from databases.
  • Ability to effectively multitask while juggling multiple competing priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to optimize business issues of varying complexity.
  • Strong written, verbal, active listening, and presentation skills.
