Note : There is one position available, and the position will be filled at one of five job grade levels: Combustion Turbine Technician I, job grade T2; Combustion Turbine Technician II, job grade T3; Combustion Turbine Technician III, job grade T4, Combustion Turbine Technician IV, job grade T5, or Journey Level Combustion Turbine Technician, job grade T6. Responsibilities
- Perform operations and maintenance of combustion turbine generating units, station and site support systems to include substation switching.
- Perform overall plant preventative maintenance program, conduct major equipment inspection and learn and use the spare parts system.
- Learn and apply safe, effective use and operation of hand tools, precision equipment and specialized test equipment used in maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Operate site communication systems; prepare logs, reports, unit readings and other paperwork pertaining to the facility.
- Complete and maintain first aid and CPR certification and maintain the ability to perform first aid and CPR.
- Ensure adherence to spill prevention and response procedures, waste management and storm-water handling, complete emergency response procedures training program and facility response plans as applicable.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies such as fire, major spill, unit failure or injured employee.
- Comply with environmental regulations during operation and maintenance of plant and equipment.
- Responsible for using plant safety equipment and procedures, including job briefings, confined space entry, lockout/tagout, hot work permit, critical path entry, work permit and air monitoring equipment.
- Maintain, operate and test generator, excitation, switchgear, PT and CT circuits, and the ability to evaluate data for continued operation and recommendations for maintenance.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of station protective relay operation, interaction and zones of protection.
- Assist with staff and safety meetings.
- Learn control system theory, and application, to include power supply, start-up speed, temperature control, protection systems, communications, operational limits, and monitoring systems.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures and attain knowledge and remain knowledgeable of regulations, laws, standards, and best practices applicable to functional area.
- Because Tri-State has an obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to its customers, the ability to work overtime at any time of the day or week is considered an essential function of the job.
- Direct work as assigned by supervisor with contractors and other personnel.
Education and Training
- Trade school training or associate degree in electronics, instrumentation and control, electrical technical training, electrician training, electrical engineering technology or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Willingness to work extra or irregular hours, shift work, weekends and holidays, call-out, and willingness to travel, including overnight travel.
- Possess mechanical and electrical skills including demonstrated ability to isolate equipment from hazardous sources of energy.
- Possess ability and availability to be contacted outside of work.
- Ability to recognize and report problems in plant and substation equipment, and perform troubleshooting, calibrations, repair of sensors, transmitters, and signal and feedback devices.
- Willingness to work with high voltage and must be able to pass switching certification tests.
- Willingness to work at other power plants and actively participate in on-the-job training and other training, as required, with willingness to travel 10-15% of the time.
- Complete and maintain Visual Emissions Certification.
- Two (2) years of power plant experience which may consist of an equivalent combination of related education and/or power plant experience.
- Possess valid driver’s license.
- Must have and maintain a satisfactory work record.
- Must reside within 60 miles of base location.
- Have good health and physical ability sufficient to perform strenuous work.
