Safety Instructor/ HAZMAT TRAINER

Job Summary: Coordinate and supervise all training programs dealing with Orientation of new hires and the transportation, packaging, and shipping of hazardous materials. Additionally, responsible for other safety related programs to include but not limited to tanker training, pump and hose training, Personal Protective Equipment, flatbed load securement, American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and Defensive Driver Training.

Key Accountabilities (Essential Functions):

1.Remain current on company policy, coordinate with Safety, Operations, Payroll and HR. Facilitate the training requirements to hire new Drivers.

2. Administer training Hazmat programs to include: explosives, hazardous waste, and radioactive materials.

3. Remain current on all government regulations to include 49CFR, 40CFR, 10CFR, and 29 CFR; keep organization updated.

4. Conduct training in Joplin, and field locations to include customer sites.

5. Train instructors & keep them updated.

6. Visit/train customers as requested.

7. Answer inquiries from customers and driving and non-driving employees.

8. Resolve problems between TSMT and SHIPPERS

9. 24hr on call for hazardous materials questions and guidance

10. Keep Training Center clean and organized for drivers and presenters.

11. Backup coverage for guardhouse coverage

Assigned Work Region: Physical presence in assigned workplace. Office area/Operations. Work in a close-quartered, high-volume phone environment, open to group meetings, classes, etc. Some travel involved.

General Requirements:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Skills: Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal. Computer knowledge. Certificates of completion required for hazardous material transportation to include explosives, hazardous waste, radioactive materials, highway route control, spent fuel and others as may be required from time to time.

Knowledge: Must have considerable knowledge of all aspects hazardous materials and the appropriate government regulations. Must possess broad knowledge and may be expected to provide assistance and instruction to others. Has the ability to identify and resolve problems based on extensive knowledge.

Experience: Experience in a similar position or related field is requested but not required. Will train any stellar candidate.

Scope of Responsibility: Follows established procedures and policies, but may use some discretion in identifying, researching, and resolving problems. May prioritize tasks and time, with direction of supervisor. Errors have impact on organizations financial performance.

Internal/External Contacts: Communication is continuous and often complex, to resolve non-routine problems, provide direction, negotiate complex transactions, or convey highly specialized information.

Unique Conditions: Quick decisions needed under pressure.

Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain and keep a government Secret Security Clearance.
