Position Overview: Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, the Director of Finance and Compliance is responsible for overseeing the organization’s financial health, regulatory compliance, and information technology systems. The Director of Finance and Compliance is a key member of the leadership team, responsible for ensuring sound financial planning, risk management, and the efficient operation and security of the organization’s technology infrastructure. The Director will supervise finance and IT staff and collaborate across departments to support the organization's mission and strategic objectives.

Qualifications:

§  Bachelor’s degree required in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (master’s degree or CPA preferred).

§  Minimum three (3) years of experience in nonprofit financial management.

§  Demonstrated experience in IT oversight, cybersecurity, and systems implementation (formal IT certification is a plus but not required).

§  Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and federal grant compliance.

§  Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage MIP) and Microsoft Office Suite.

§  Familiarity with IT systems such as Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, or enterprise platforms.

§  Strong leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills.

§  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

§  Commitment to the mission and values of the organization.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 I.          FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

§  Oversee all accounting operations including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting.

§  Develop and manage the annual organizational budget in collaboration with leadership and program directors.

§  Prepare and present financial reports to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.

§  Oversee the maintenance of bank accounts, credit cards and reconciliation of the bank statement.

§  Work closely with the Director of Development to capture incoming donations accurately and allocating them to the correct funds.

§  Oversee journals and posting to ledgers.

§  Ensure sound financial planning aligned with the organization’s goals and funding streams.

§  Monitor and manage organizational cash flow and investments.

 II.         GRANTS AND CONTRACTS OVERSIGHT

§  Track grant budgets, expenditures, and reporting requirements.

§  Collaborate with program staff to prepare budgets and financial reports for grant proposals and renewals.

§  Ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance and other government grant regulations.

 III.        IT DEPARTMENT SUPERVISION

§  Provide leadership and oversight to the IT department, ensuring systems are secure, reliable, and meet organizational needs.

§  Develop and implement IT policies and strategies, including cybersecurity, data privacy, and disaster recovery plans.

§  Oversee procurement and maintenance of hardware, software, and digital tools.

§  Evaluate technology infrastructure and recommend improvements or upgrades.

§  Ensure effective IT support is available to staff and that systems are aligned with organizational growth.

 IV.        COMPLIANCE AND RISK MANAGEMENT

§  Coordinates grant requirements regarding insurance coverage.

§  Ensure compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements, including IRS regulations, GAAP standards, and nonprofit governance rules.

§  Lead the annual audit process and oversee timely and accurate 990 filings.

§  Maintain and enhance internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard assets and ensure fiscal accountability.

§  Oversee compliance with grant and contract requirements, including allowable costs and financial reporting.

V.         PAYROLL MANAGEMENT

§  Oversee Tri-Valley Haven’s payroll staff, ensuring policies & legal requirements are met.

§  Supervise biweekly payroll processing.

§  Confirm adherence to minimum wage, overtime, & salary laws.

§  Ensure Tri-Valley Haven’s pre/post-tax deductions and tax returns are made in a timely manner.


VI.         TEAM LEADERSHIP AND COLLABORATION

§  Supervise and support finance, compliance, and IT staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.

§  Serve as a key member of the leadership team, contributing to strategic planning and organizational development.

§  Liaise with the Board’s Finance or Audit Committee and provide transparent reporting on financial and IT operations.

 

VII.        OTHER TASKS AS ASSIGNED BY THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WITHIN THE SCOPE OF TRI-VALLEY HAVEN’S MISSION.

 

VIII.       PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

§  Experience managing federal grants (e.g., HUD, DOJ, HHS).

§  Familiarity with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) and other grant compliance frameworks.

§  Experience supervising cross-functional teams.

§  Knowledge of nonprofit data privacy and cybersecurity best practices.

Salary : $98,000 - $135,000
