General Responsibilities: Working under the supervision of the Food Pantry Manager, the Food Pantry assistant will help with daily pantry operations including driving the box truck to pick up food donations at local grocers, managing food donations, keeping the pantry organized, assisting clients, and entering food pantry participants’ program data.
General Requirements: High School required, College helpful. Customer Service skills are essential. Knowledge of social services and serving food-insecure clients is helpful. Knowledge of general office procedures, filing and computer skills, required. A valid driver’s license and clean driving record required. Completion of minimum required Agency Training within 6 months of employment (if not before).
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
I. DAILY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Pick-up groceries and food donations from Livermore and Pleasanton grocery stores daily.
B. Unloading donations, weighing and recording them.
C. Helping with sorting and storing donations.
D. Help clients “shop” for their food.
E. Stock and maintain canned food and perishable food on shelves.
F. Take temperature reading of all refrigerators and freezers.
G. Keep refrigerators and freezers clean.
H. Check expiration dates on all food, rotate food as needed.
I. Answer phones, co-ordinate with volunteers and keep the pantry neat and tidy.
II. Data Collection/Management
A. Receive applications for new clients, enter in client database
B. Record services in the database.
C. Assist with the completion and submission of required reports.
D. Help to establish protocols for data collection and entry in conjunction with Program Directors and Contracts Manager.
IV. GENERAL TASKS - Performs general tasks as needed and represents Tri-Valley Haven in a professional manner. Tasks include, but are not limited to:
A. Accept food donations as needed.
B. Give donations slips as needed.
C. Work with volunteers; assist where needed.
D. Attend staff meetings as requested.
E. Participate in community fundraising and special events as requested.
F. Must have a valid California Driver's License.
G. Must maintain a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) to be able to drive for the agency.
V. OTHER TASKS AS ASSIGNED BY THE FOOD PANTRY COORDINATOR, DIRECTOR OF HOMELESS SERVICES, OR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WITHIN THE SCOPE OF TRI-VALLEY HAVEN’S MISSION.
