General Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Director of Homeless and Family Support Services, the Thrift Store Manager oversees the operation of Tri-Valley Haven Thrift Store; including the supervision of volunteers, managing donation intake, Staff/volunteer coverage of essential positions, store cleanliness and efficient staging and promotion of merchandise. This position is a hands-on job that includes lifting, bending, standing, sorting, pricing, displaying, cashiering, and cleaning.

General Requirements: High School diploma and at least two years of experience in retail sales with one year supervisory experience. Prior experience in thrift retail or consignment industry preferred. Strong knowledge of collectables and designer brands, knowledge of e-commerce and marketing skills; computer skills, POS equipment, management, and customer service skills required. Ability to manage time and tasks efficiently. Knowledge of violence against women and children, homelessness, and poverty helpful. Completion of minimum required Agency Training within 6 months of employment (if not before).

 

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

I.          OVERSIGHT OF THRIFT STORE

A.     Responsible for the daily oversight of Tri-Valley Haven Thrift Store operations and facility; including opening and closing, sales, handling payments/cash, donations processing, staff/volunteer coverage of essential positions, and assuring safety and cleanliness. Responsible for inventorying and ordering operational supplies. Responsible for equipment maintenance.

B.      Responsible for managing and maintaining the flow of merchandise onto the sales floor, rotating the product in a timely manner; monitoring and supervising the sorting, cleaning, pricing, and stocking of merchandise for quality, staging, and store presentation in order the maximize profitability, visibility, and efficient use of space.

C.      Continually promote sales utilizing a variety of approaches, including identifying items for weekly half-price sales, highlighting/promoting specialty items and seasonal items, and advertising via social media.

D.     Responsible for internal controls for cash accounting; prepares the Daily Cashier Reconciliation report and the daily deposit and submits reports to the Director of Homeless and Family Support daily. Perform bank runs for daily deposits and to maintain appropriate change for cash register operations.

E.      Encourage, foster, and promote positive relationships with customers, volunteers, and donors.

F.      Actively develop relationships with local retail stores to increase quality donations; Promote and solicit in-kind donations.

II.         STAFF AND VOLUNTEER SUPERVISION

A.     Supervises and trains Thrift Store volunteers and relief staff on duties and store/agency policies. Assures that staff and volunteers comply with all laws, safety and security procedures, and assures staff and volunteers follow appropriate ethical standards. Manage volunteer schedules to ensure that the store has sufficient staffing.

B.      Responsible for logging volunteer hours daily; ensures staff compliance to labor laws.

C.      Apprises Director of Homeless and Family Support Services on all operational issues.

III.       GENERAL TASKS

A.     Attend meetings including monthly all-staff, department meetings, and other meetings as required.

B.      Participate in community fundraising and special events as required.

C.      Must have a reliable mean of transportation and/or an insured automobile that the employee may use as necessary for agency related business. You must maintain a good Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) to be able to drive for the agency.

IV.       OTHER TASKS AS ASSIGEND BY THE DIRECTOR OF HOMELESS AND FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES AND/OR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WITHIN THE SCOPE OF TRI-VALLEYHAVEN’S MISSION.
