What are the responsibilities and job description for the Phlebotomist position at Tri Valley Health System?
Non-exempt, FT day position, 7:30 am- 4 pm
General Summary:
Performs venipunctures and skin punctures. Has thorough knowledge of test requirements, assists in Clinical Laboratory as needed. Responsibilities include blood cultures, blood samples. Verifies and enters patient I.D. information on specimen labels and performs related clerical duties. Responsible for cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing various equipment and work areas in the laboratory. Maintains laboratory inventory. Participates in performance improvement activities.
Essential Functions:

- Explains blood draw procedures to patients and answering any questions about the process.
- Verifies patient identification and explains sampling procedures to patients.

- Prepares specimens for transportation, including labeling vials accurately and matching blood specimens to patients.
- Ordering laboratory supplies, as needed.

- Assessing patient needs, reviewing patient history, and determining the reason(s) for drawing blood.

Education and Experience:
- Prior laboratory experience preferred.
Regulatory Requirements:
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
