About the Role: Lab Planner
We seek an experienced Lab Planner to join our Science and Technology design team full-time. This role offers the chance to work on cutting-edge laboratory projects for various clients, including academia, commercial research, and manufacturing organizations. You'll play a pivotal role in lab programming, feasibility studies, master planning, and detailed design.
We welcome candidates with experience in research spaces, teaching labs, medical device manufacturing facilities, data centers, GLP and GMP environments, and other complex lab and manufacturing setups. Professionals transitioning from life sciences roles (such as research, lab management, or scientific product development) who want to apply their expertise to design are also encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
As a Lab Planner, you will:
- Collaborate with the Director of Science and Technology and senior planners to prepare programming documents, room cards, and workflow diagrams.
- Participate in client meetings, equipment surveys, and translating conceptual designs into schematic plans.
- Support the design team through all project phases, ensuring goals are met and designs comply with life safety and regulatory codes.
- Oversee equipment placement, produce detailed lab plans, and coordinate with MEP and other consultants.
- Maintain and contribute to databases for planning metrics, equipment standards, and benchmarking.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture (preferred licensure or licensure track) or a branch of non-design science like biology or chemistry, etc.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in lab planning or the life sciences industry.
- Familiarity with design and construction drawings (training provided for non-design professionals).
- Proficiency in Revit (training provided for non-design professionals).
- Comfortable with hand sketching.
- Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and mentorship skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Licensed professional (AIA registration, NCARB certification).
- Proficiency in software: Navisworks, Newforma, and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, MS Project).
