What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgical Counselor position at Triad Eye Institute?
Job Overview:
Busy Ophthalmology office seeking an energetic and motivated Surgical Counselor. Must be punctual, have excellent communication, great interpersonal skills, and the ability to work both independently and as a team member. Medical/Optometry/Ophthalmology or Insurance Coordinator/Benefits experience is a plus. Willing to train the right person!
Duties:
- Schedule patients for surgery and complete appropriate paperwork.
- Counsel patient for all surgeries.
- Preparing surgery charts.
-Stay current with the latest technologies we offer and surgical drop information to be able to answer general patient questions.
-Verification of benefits for surgery.
-Discuss benefits and financials with patients.
-Inform the patient of what is expected the day of surgery and answer any pre-surgical questions, and schedule follow-up care.
-Able to accurately create surgery encounters into the electronic medical record.
-Must comply with all policies and procedures of Triad Eye Institute and the employee handbook.
-Perform any other duties as assigned to accomplish the task at hand.
Experience:
-Must demonstrate data entry skills, knowledge of standard office equipment.
-Knowledge of medical insurance/benefits or medical terminology is a PLUS, but willing to train the right person.
- Ability to handle multiple activities effectively, exhibit good communication skills, and patient service oriented.
-Ability to work in a team environment.
