Key Responsibilities:
Trial Advocacy & Case Management
- Independently manage criminal defense cases from intake through resolution, including jury trials.
- Develop and implement strategic case plans tailored to each client’s unique circumstances.
- Draft pleadings, motions, and trial briefs with clarity and precision.
- Advocate vigorously in court, protecting client interests at every stage.
Courtroom Excellence
- Regularly appear in court for hearings, motion arguments, and trials.
- Conduct effective voir dire, compelling opening statements, persuasive closing arguments, and skillful witness examinations.
- Negotiate favorable plea agreements and advocate assertively at sentencing hearings.
Investigation & Discovery
- Lead discovery efforts, review critical evidence, and collaborate with investigators and experts to develop robust case theories.
- Ensure timely compliance with discovery obligations and manage case deadlines meticulously.
Client-Centered Approach
- Communicate proactively and compassionately with clients, guiding them clearly through the legal process.
- Foster trust and confidence by providing honest, strategic advice and consistent case updates.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Serve as a mentor and resource for junior attorneys, paralegals, and support staff.
- Actively contribute to the growth and professional development of team members, enhancing the firm’s collaborative environment.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active Kansas bar membership.
- 5 years of significant criminal defense trial experience.
- Demonstrated ability to independently handle a diverse and demanding caseload.
- Exceptional trial advocacy, legal writing, and oral communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize effectively.
- Emotional intelligence, empathy, integrity, and commitment to team culture.
