Primary Role:
The college counselor is responsible for administering all aspects of the college search and admissions process. Provide direction to underclassmen and their families regarding available options and requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in college counseling or related field
- Current North Carolina counseling license
- Previous college counseling experience in the High School setting is preferred
Skills, Duties, and Responsibilities:
- Must be adept in the NC Graduation Requirements and College Entry Requirements
- Maintain knowledge base on admissions requirements for various colleges and post-high school options.
- Guide students and others in understanding and utilizing Naviance, the college admission data management system. Provide guidance and resources and teach tools to navigate the college search and application process.
- Guide students and their parents/guardians through the college admissions and application process.
- Invite college admissions officers to visit the school and meet with students.
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of colleges and universities, which includes making regular visits to colleges. Stay current on high education changes.
- Meet individually with student(s) and parents/to explore and identify appropriate college options. Communicate regularly with counselees.
- Monitor individual student progress throughout the college application process.
- Provide knowledge-based on financing options including scholarship award levels, requirements, and options.
- Meet with current families to discuss academic performance requirements, course selection for desired major in college, and test score requirements.
- Develop and strengthen the relationship with colleges and universities
- Seek out and evaluate various testing options for students, based on grade level, usage by their institution’s evaluation tools, etc.
- Assist students with counselor forms, recommendation letters, and transcripts.
- Identify and assist students in applying for other eligible scholarships not open to the entire class
- Coordinate college entrance exam program for all TMSA Charter Schools students
