This is a full-time position with Los Angeles Unified School District. The ideal candidate for the Senior Project Manager II position would be a seasoned professional with at least 17 years of full-time project and construction management experience, including a minimum of five years managing large-scale programs with projects valued over $50 million. They should have extensive experience in educational facility construction, public works, or large commercial projects, and possess strong leadership skills to oversee and manage multiple projects. The candidate must be capable of resolving complex construction-related issues, monitoring project progress, reviewing change orders, and ensuring that projects stay on budget and schedule. A key part of the role involves coordinating with multiple departments, managing fiscal responsibilities, and providing functional direction on schedules, cost control, contract administration, and quality control. The ideal candidate will also have experience with bid and contract planning, dispute resolution, and policy development. A bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or construction management is required, or a combination of substantial experience and the ability to obtain a Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential within one year. Preferred qualifications include design-build experience, knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM), LEED-certified projects, and familiarity with Division of State Architect (DSA) processes. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to review and manage project contracts and coordinate with various stakeholders. A valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect or Professional Engineer is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Manages and provides construction oversight to OARs
- Resolves complex construction project related issues, disputes, and disagreements
- Develops, assigns, and monitors performance of OARs relative to assigned construction projects
- Reviews status and overall construction project progress relative to submitted construction schedules
- Reviews change orders from all construction projects and assesses their impact on the District
- Assists Regional Directors and other Facilities management staff with bid and contract planning
- Assesses bid specifications for District need and probability of completion under stated timeline
- Reviews status and monitors variances of the construction project database relative to scheduling and cost control reporting
- Reviews and verifies submitted applications for payment and performs overall fiscal management of multiple construction projects
- Provides functional direction over areas of responsibility including construction project schedules, cost control, dispute resolution, contract administration, and quality control
- Reviews and monitors overall administration of contracts for the architect and related consultants
- Coordinates program activities with other District organizational branches and departments such as the Office of Environmental Health and Safety, Design and A / E Technical Support, Asset Management Branch, Facilities Contract Administration, Inspection Unit, Maintenance and Operations, and local districts
- Reviews and takes recommended actions in resolving disputes relative to construction projects
- Develops and recommends internal policies and procedures
- Performs other related duties as assigned
