SUMMARY
Responsible for managing the flow of work through the Tool Room, allocating resources and providing guidance and training, as well as independently manufacturing complete parts from the engineering drawing, including methods and programs, to meet on-time delivery and quality objectives and in compliance with the Quality Management System, all applicable regulations, and customer requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Manage the flow of work through the Tool Room through regular capacity planning, and maintain a publicly accessible schedule that clearly identifies priorities, time to completion, and allocated resources.
Based on capability, assign work to the team, outlining expectations of quality, documentation and completion date, monitoring their workload and providing assistance as needed.
Commit to deliverable dates and provide timely notification of any risks or obstacles to management.
Manufacture complete parts from the engineering drawing:
- Analyze and interpret written specifications, drawings, rough sketches and verbal instructions to determine sequence of operations.
- Create and modify CNC programs using company-standard software applications, as required.
- Design and manufacture fixtures and tooling for own projects as well as to support the manufacturing group.
- Independently set up and operate all CNC and secondary equipment as required and troubleshoot any technical problems.
- Test and inspect products during the manufacturing operation to determine if items meet specifications, complying with established standards and methods for inspection, testing, evaluation and calibration.
Prepare and update documentation as required by the scope of the job, production vs. non-production as well as audit and review the documentation of other team members to ensure accuracy and compliance to quality system standards and procedures.
Support the preparation of quotes for new business, providing fixture design requirements and other process estimates, as needed.
Provide regular on-the-job training to Tool Room associates to support their development and enhance the competency of the team.
Ensure preventive maintenance is performed on the Tool Room equipment, examine any defective machinery to accurately determine and report the problem, and monitor and/or expedite the repairs as needed.
Lead the sustainment of 5S workplace organization within the Tool Room area, encouraging efficiency, safety, and standardization for optimum performance.
Understand and comply with company policies, safety guidelines, quality system procedures and housekeeping standards.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, however may be responsible for scheduling and directing the activities of production associates in the area, as well as requiring their compliance to company policy and standards.

Education and/or Experience
High School diploma or general education degree (GED) and 5-7 years of experience as a CNC Set-up Machinist and/or Tool Maker, preferably in a precision machining and regulated environment.
Required
- Ability to read, write and speak English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, etc. as well as write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate clearly in written form as well as when speaking to others one-on-one and presenting to small groups.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages. Ability to apply basic concepts of geometry.
- Exceptional fixture design capability
- Capable of independently setting up and troubleshooting the CNC equipment and secondary equipment in assigned area.
- Advanced inspection techniques.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience with tool usage and demand, and capable of navigating the Tool Crib and GageTrak systems.
- Understanding of the company’s Quality Management System and its application, including the document control system.
- Capable of coaching and transferring knowledge to others.
- Customer service and collaboration skills.
- Detail-oriented, organized and ability to multi-task and establish priorities in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Solid foundation of PC skills, including MS Word/Excel.
