Summary:
Under the direction of the Lytton Rancheria of California Director of Facilities, the Janitorial Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, orderliness, and sanitation of buildings, facilities, and surrounding areas.
This role involves performing routine cleaning tasks, managing waste, and ensuring the workplace is safe and hygienic for employees and visitors.
Locations include but are not limited to: Community Center, Retreat, Waster Water Treatment Plant, Tribal Corporate Offices, Guardhouse, Lift Station, and any additional facilities as they come online.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
· Clean and sanitize restrooms, offices, hallways, break rooms, and common areas.
· Sweep, mop, vacuum, and buff floors.
· Dust and wipe down surfaces such as furniture, light fixtures, windows, and countertops.
· Empty trash cans and replace liners, ensuring waste is properly disposed of.
· Replenish supplies such as soap, toilet paper, paper towels, and trash bags.
· Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces such as door handles, light switches, and elevator buttons.
· Clean windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces to maintain a streak-free shine.
· Maintain cleaning equipment, report any malfunctioning or damaged tools.
· Follow safety protocols and use appropriate cleaning chemicals and tools to ensure safe work practices.
· Perform periodic deep cleaning tasks such as carpet shampooing, floor waxing, and window washing as required.
· Respond to urgent cleaning requests, such as spills or accidents, in a timely manner.
· Monitor and report maintenance or repair issues to management.
· Ensure compliance with facility policies and health standards related to cleanliness and sanitation.
· Assist with the setup and breakdown of meeting or event spaces as needed.
· Follow all chemical and equipment safety requirements, including but not limited to, personal protective equipment (“PPE”) use.
· Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
· Previous custodial or janitorial experience.
· Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
· Working knowledge of cleaning techniques, chemicals, and equipment.
· Strong attention to detail and ability to complete tasks thoroughly.
· Experience managing time effectively and prioritizing tasks.
· Experience interacting professionally with others.
· Working understanding of safety practices and experience adhering to such guidelines.
· Working knowledge of cleaning chemicals and PPE requirements.
· Reliable and punctual.
· Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights and/or weekends, and holidays if required.
· At least 18 years of age.
· Ability to communicate effectively in English, including both written and verbal forms.
· Obtain and maintain all work cards as required by the company.
· Verify right to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
· Previous experience in a janitorial supervisory position and/or business ownership.
· High school diploma or equivalent.
Physical Requirements
· Standing and Walking: Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday while performing cleaning tasks.
· Lifting: Ability to lift and carry cleaning supplies, equipment, and trash bags up to 50 pounds as required.
· Bending and Stooping: Frequent bending, kneeling, and stooping to clean surfaces, mop floors, and lift objects.
· Reaching: Ability to reach overhead to clean windows, shelves, and high surfaces.
· Climbing: Ability to use ladders or step stools to access high areas for cleaning or maintenance tasks.
· Manual Dexterity: Capable of handling cleaning tools, equipment, and supplies with precision and care.
· Physical Stamina: Ability to perform repetitive tasks, including sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming, over extended periods.
· Mobility: Ability to move quickly and safely around the facility to respond to cleaning needs or emergency situations.
· Endurance: Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including indoor and outdoor spaces, sometimes in varying temperatures.
Work Environment Potential Conditions
· Work is performed primarily indoors.
· Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hard and soft carpeted floors, cement structures and surfaces.
