Job Overview: Performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of SMSC-owned light, medium, and heavy vehicles, and equipment, including Emergency Services vehicles. Performs preventative maintenance to ensure that all vehicles are safe and mechanically sound.
Maximize Your Impact: The Responsibilities You’ll Own:
- Perform skilled diagnostic and repair procedures on light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks, vans, buses, generators, small engine, and heavy equipment owned by the SMSC.
- Performs preventive maintenance on SMSC-owned vehicles, generators, heavy-equipment,
and small engine equipment. - Completes repair orders ensuring that work performed and parts used are documented.
- Maintains shop areas and tools/diagnostic equipment to ensure safety and cleanliness.
- Designs and fabricates tools and equipment.
- Occasional tasks:
- Orders parts and supplies from authorized dealers.
- May direct the activities of the Fleet Cleaning Specialist.
- Plows snow. Driving is an essential function of this job. In the event driving is required, employees must adhere to the driving standards determined by the SMSC.
Job Requirements:
- Technical school graduate with an automotive or truck degree, or 4 years of experience in an automotive or truck repair facility.
- High School graduate or GED.
- Specialized knowledge of various types of vehicle diagnostic testing and programming tools used in vehicle repair and maintenance.
- Valid D driver’s license required upon hire.
- Class A Driver's License Required - training provided by SMSC within 1 year of hire.
- Industrial Truck Driving permit may be required (forklift) with training available.
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of small engine repair.
