Summary
The Janitor position will report to the school’s Operations Director, with direct responsibility for providing a safe and clean environment for the organization's grounds and facilities. The position requires a strong work ethic, and a team oriented approach to facilities planning and maintenance. The position requires different work hours at times; weekends and evening hours will be needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Valid Driver License
- Able to lift at least 50 pounds
- General knowledge cleaning and maintaining health and safety standards
- Ability to prioritize and multitask
- The position requires FBI/BCI background check
- This position will require prolonged times of standing and walking

Essential Functions
- Maintain a clean and safe Supply Room
- Sweep, vacuum, mop and wax floors
- Empty and clean waste receptacles, trash pails and pencil sharpeners
- Refill soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers and bathroom tissue in all school building restrooms
- Remove cobwebs, clean windows and chalkboards
- Check all storage areas for orderliness, safety, etc.
- Ensure building opening is safe and ready for other staff and students to open
- Clean and maintain custodial equipment and materials
- Clean and sanitize school building restrooms
- Conduct periodical inspections of the building
- Complete paperwork as required by the supervisor
- Promote good safety practices and procedures
- Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
- Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
- Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
- Remove debris and trash on the grounds of the building.
- Ensure that the work site and conditions are safe; All chemicals are out of reach of students at all times.
- Perform assignments relating to ensuring all areas are able to safely open and function when assigned.
- Perform regular inspections of equipment and systems, reporting any abnormalities and hazards immediately.
- Respond to emergency situations and perform necessary cleanups within environmental health and/or Ohio Department of Children and Youth requirements
- Use the work order system, making sure that work orders are written for any maintenance requests.
- Maintain an inventory of all supplies monthly and report to Operations Director and Office Manager.
- Provide inventory order needs by required date to Operations Director and/or Office Manager
- Operate and maintain in a safe and operational condition all chemicals, tools and equipment necessary to carry out job functions and responsibilities.
- Maintain METAData Sheets and provide required documentation to the Office Manager when requested.
- Remove snow (less than 2”) and salt as needed walk areas and work with the Operations Director with maintenance and contracted snow removal company.
- Report immediately any damage or vandalism to facilities, or theft of equipment.
- Attend required meetings, including Safety Training and serve, as appropriate on staff committees.
- Set up equipment and furniture for special events and use of building for school and community functions
- Notify and assist the administration and appropriate emergency personnel with any emergency and potentially dangerous or unusual situation.
- Work with vendors delegated by the Operations Director and report all communication to Operations Director.
- Maintain records as requested by the Operations Director.
- Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by the administration, and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
