Summary
The Forging Operator Level 2 is responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of advanced forging machinery to shape metal parts according to detailed specifications. This intermediate-level position requires a deeper understanding of forging processes and adherence to safety protocols and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Operate forging machinery such as presses, setting up the press with proper tooling, set up thermocouples without supervision.
- Start up and shut down furnaces, monitor, check, and adjust furnaces during the heat treat process with minimal supervision.
- Monitor machine operation to detect any malfunctions or deviations from specifications.
- Operate 3000 Ton & 6000 Ton Presses efficiently and safely.
- Handle heavy-duty lift trucks equipped with forks or a manipulator.
- Inspect forged parts for defects and ensure they meet stringent quality standards.
- Perform advanced routine maintenance on forging equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Identify and report any equipment issues to the maintenance department.
- Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to prevent accidents.
- Record production data and maintain accurate logs of machine operations.
- Complete any required documentation for quality control and production tracking.
Qualifications
- Advanced understanding of metal forging processes and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Good physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy materials.
- Basic math skills and the ability to use measuring tools.
- Willingness to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
Education and/or Experience
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or metalworking environment.
- Familiarity with advanced machine maintenance procedures.
- Courses in metalworking, machining, or industrial technology from a technical school or community college.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a manufacturing or metalworking environment, with a focus on forging.
- Forklift experience is required.
