Summary
Responsible for performing comprehensive quality inspections at various stages of the manufacturing process in our Forging department, ensuring adherence to internal specifications and customer requirements. The inspector will collaborate with multiple departments to verify that the product aligns with the router (traveling document) and customer specifications. Responsibilities include maintaining detailed records in compliance with Quality Systems Procedure Manuals, Quality Control Standards, and Quality Control Management.
Responsibilities
- Inspect raw materials, in-process forged components, and final products for compliance with customer specifications.
- Verify that the router (traveling document) matches the product at all stages of production.
- Conduct dimensional, visual, and Positive Material Identification (PMI) inspections.
- Perform advanced hardness testing and ultrasonic thickness (UT) measurements.
- Verify product marking, preservation, and packaging standards.
- Maintain and calibrate measuring equipment, including coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
- Prepare thorough and accurate inspection reports, ensuring proper traceability and documentation.
- Oversee in-process and receiving inspections to maintain quality standards.
- Assist in specialized testing, such as hydrostatic and burst tests, when required.
- Identify product defects and recommend corrective actions or improvements.
- Collaborate with multiple departments across the plant to ensure quality standards and customer requirements are met.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean and safe workspace.
- Train junior inspectors and provide guidance on quality inspection best practices.
Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Knowledge in forging operations or related manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of dimensional, visual, and PMI inspections, as well as hardness testing and metallurgical examinations.
- Advanced skills in ultrasonic thickness measurements and operating coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
- Proficiency in preparing and reviewing detailed inspection documentation and reports.
- Ability to troubleshoot inspection processes and resolve quality-related issues independently.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication abilities.
- Adherence to safety protocols and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Technology, Quality Assurance, or Engineering preferred.
- 2–3 years of experience in quality control, manufacturing inspection, or metallurgical testing.
- Experience with hydrostatic and burst testing is a plus.
