Job Title: Computer Operator III IT Specialist.
Location: Naval Base Coronado/NAS North Island, Bldg. 318-2, Saufley St, NAS North Island San Diego, CA 92135
Duration: Full Time Permanent.
Position Summary:
The Computer Operator III serves as an Information Technology (IT) Specialist responsible for the administration and operation of Linux and Windows Server application servers and peripherals that support the Naval Aviation Logistics Command Management Information System Optimized Intermediate Maintenance Activity (NALCOMIS ) and Relational Supply I (RSUPPLYI). The position ensures the maintenance of critical IT systems that support naval aviation maintenance and supply operations, including planning, designing, acquiring, documenting, testing, and implementing various IT systems.
Key Responsibilities:
System Administration:
- Administer NALCOMIS OOMA/OIMA Servers: Perform system administration duties for the Virtual OOMA/OIMA servers, ensuring proper configuration and user account management.
- Account and Password Management: Set up system administrator accounts and assign appropriate privileges to end users. Maintain secure password protocols according to DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG).
- Backup & Maintenance: Perform scheduled and unscheduled system backups for Virtual Machine (VM) Servers. Verify and ensure backup completion and data integrity. Update virus definitions and monitor for system errors.
- System Monitoring: Monitor and analyze system/database logs to identify and resolve errors. Ensure system integrity and the successful processing of batch programs and queries.
Technical & Customer Support:
- Deployment Support: Assist Squadron OOMA System Administrators (SA) with hardware and software preparation for deployment. Ensure all systems are operational prior to deployment and after return, reconciling with documentation and performing necessary repairs.
- Remote Support: Provide technical assistance to OIMA/OOMA users regarding remote desktop access, connectivity, interface, and account issues. Address and resolve customer-reported incidents or escalate issues to NAVWAR if necessary.
- Hardware Support: Troubleshoot and repair NALCOMIS OOMA Squadron level host computer hardware. Initiate requisitions for spare parts, manage hardware inventory, and ensure system equipment is in operational condition.
Operations and Maintenance:
- Monitor Interfaces: Oversee the inter-system connectivity and ensure smooth data flow between systems. Perform routine file transfers and batch program executions to process data.
- Provide Status Updates: Keep supervisors and functional managers updated on system status, routine operations, and issues that may arise. Maintain detailed logs for processing status and performance.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in IT system administration, with a focus on server management, system backups, and customer support within a technical environment.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of Linux and Windows server environments, system administration, and virtualization (VMware). Familiarity with NALCOMIS and RSUPPLYI is highly preferred.
- Skills: Ability to troubleshoot complex IT issues, manage server configurations, and perform system diagnostics. Knowledge of security protocols and IT best practices in accordance with government standards.
- Certifications: Relevant IT certifications such as CompTIA A , Network , or similar certifications are preferred but not required.
- Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance if required.
Additional Information:
- The incumbent will work closely with Squadron OOMA SA and CNAP N422 Server Pool personnel for deployment support and system maintenance.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with team members and end-users, ensuring quick resolution of technical issues and providing clear documentation when necessary.
- Some physical labor may be required to manage server equipment, including lifting and moving hardware as needed.
