Purpose of Position: The Senior Technical Writer is responsible for developing, standardizing, and maintaining documentation to support manufacturing operations, engineering processes, and customer deliverables. This role collaborates with manufacturing engineers, design teams, production staff, customer support, business development and programs to ensure clear, accurate, and compliant documentation.
Summary of Essential Job Functions:
- Develop and update manufacturing process documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and quality control guidelines for aerospace gimbal systems.
- Apply knowledge in technical writing and engineering principles to analyze, interpret, and communicate complex technical concepts.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineers, design engineers, and production teams to ensure accurate and clear documentation.
- Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and CAD models to create detailed assembly and test instructions.
- Assist in developing training materials for manufacturing and operational employees.
- Create and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs) to define and manage the integration of hardware and software components.
- Author and revise customer user guides, technical manuals, and product training materials to support end-user understanding and operations.
- Work with technical illustrators or use CAD tools to create diagrams, flowcharts, and visual aids.
- Implement and manage the company’s single-source content management system while developing, organizing, and maintaining documentation within it.
- Manage document control systems, versioning, and revisions to maintain compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to junior writers or other employees contributing to documentation efforts, as needed.
- Ensure all documentation complies with quality and industry standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Engineering, Manufacturing, related field, or equivalent work experience. Master's degree, preferred.
- 7 years of experience in technical writing for aerospace, defense, or manufacturing industries.
- Demonstrated experience working with manufacturing processes, electro-mechanical assemblies, and precision machining.
- Familiarity with gimballed systems, servo controls, and motion control technologies, preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with technical writing and single source content management systems (e.g., MadCap Flare, Adobe FrameMaker, MS Office, Visio).
- Experience with PLM and ERP systems (e.g., Arena, Siemens Teamcenter, SAP, NetSuite).
- Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or equivalent experience, preferred.
Physical Demands of Position:
