Assembler

Position Purpose

• Under minimal direction of the Assembly Supervisor, perform mechanical assembly operations to assemble a limited range of submersible and surface drive pumps.

Responsibilities

• Interpret drawings and bill of material and plan sequence of operation. Work from oral instructions, schematic drawings, work orders, sketches, and written instructions. Equipment used includes assembly racks with sliding roller carriages, lift truck, overhead crane, pneumatic wrench and wire brush, electric hand drill, hydraulic press, chain tongs, weigh scale, and various hand tools such as wrenches and mallets.
• Perform assembly operations on various pumps. Check parts against bill of material for number, size, type, and material. Fit, adjust and align components such as suction case, couplings, bowls, and impellers, bearing retainer, mechanical seals, seal pots, thrust pots, seal piping, submersible electric motor and discharge heads to assemble complete pump. Utilize overhead crane to move parts, assist in assembly operation and transport finished pump.
• Detect and report faulty operations, defective materials and equipment, drawing and bill of material discrepancies and other unusual conditions to the proper Supervisor.
• Observe all safety and ISO 9001/14001 requirements.
• On occasion may retrieve parts from parts bins or set-down area from main plant and transport to workstation with lift truck.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience and Skills

• High School or GED (preferred).
• 2 years of industrial manufacturing experience (preferred).
• 2 years of assembly experience (preferred).

Physical Demands & Work Environment

The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent lifting, pushing or pulling of heavy objects over 50 pounds. The work involves moderate risks or discomforts requiring special safety precautions, e.g. working around moving parts, moving equipment (i.e. forklifts), rotating equipment or machines. Routine use of personal protective equipment is required and adherence to all safety precautions.

FLSA: Nonexempt/Hourly Role

Hourly Rate Range: $21.00 - $28.00 (compensation is based on years of relevant experience and skillset level).
