WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Job SummaryThe Environmental Services Assistant is primarily responsible to perform the day-to-day activities of theEnvironmental Services Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards,guidelines and regulations governing our facility, and as may be directed by the Executive Director,and/or the Environmental Services Supervisor, to assure that our facility is maintained in a clean, safe,and comfortable manner.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Ensure that work/cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical.
• Report all accidents/incidents to your supervisor no matter how minor they may be. Report tosupervisor within 24 hours of occurrence.
• Attend and participate in in-service educational classes, on-the-job training programs, etc., asscheduled or as directed.
• Attend and participate in annual OSHA and CDC in-service training programs for hazardcommunication, TB management, and bloodborne pathogens standard.
• Ensure that an adequate supply of environmental services supplies to perform daily tasks ismaintained in utility/janitorial closets.
• Report burned out light bulbs, exit lights, overhead lights, fluorescent lights, room call lights, etc.,to your supervisor as soon as practical.
• Assist others in lifting heavy equipment, supplies, etc., as directed or requested.
• Clean work/supply carts, equipment, etc., as necessary or directed. Ensure that equipment iscleaned and properly stored at the end of the shift.
• Perform day-to-day environmental services functions as assigned. Perform specific tasks inaccordance with daily work assignments.
• Empty and sanitize ash trays daily.
• Clean/polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, room heating/cooling units, etc., in resident rooms,recreational areas, etc., daily as instructed.
• Clean, wash, sanitize, and/or polish bathroom fixtures. Ensure that water marks are removed fromfixtures.
• Clean windows/mirrors in resident rooms, recreational areas, bathrooms, and entrance/exit ways.
• Clean floors, to include sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing,disinfecting, etc. (NOTE: Ensure that appropriate caution/safety signs are properly set up prior toperforming such duties.)
• Clean carpets, to include vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing, and disinfecting. Clean walls andceilings by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting, deodorizing, etc.
• Remove dirt, dust, grease, film, etc., from surfaces using proper cleaning/disinfecting solutions.
• Clean hallways, stairways, etc.
• Discard waste/trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacle with plastic liner. Discardinfectious waste into appropriate containers.
• Clean vacant rooms as assigned.
• Perform isolation cleaning procedures in accordance with established infection controlprocedures.
• The Environmental Services Assistant may not assist residents with activities of daily living(ADLs) or skilled needs.
• Ensure that work/assignment areas are clean and that equipment, tools, supplies, etc., areproperly stored at all times, as well as before leaving such areas for breaks, mealtimes, and theend of the workday.

QualificationsEducation: High School / GED

Physical RequirementsSitting, standing, bending, reaching, stretching, stooping, walking, and moving intermittently duringworking hours. Must be able to lift at least 50lbs. Must be able to maintain verbal and writtencommunication with co-workers, supervisors, residents, family members, visitors, vendors, and allbusiness associates outside of the health campus.
