What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School Social Studies Teacher position at Trilogy School of Learning Alternatives?
About Us
Trilogy School is a small, non-profit, private school that has served families in Gainesville and its surrounding communities for 30 years. We offer K-12 education, with very small class sizes. Our high school classrooms are multi-age; 9th-10th, and 11th-12th with class sizes between 12-16 students.
At Trilogy we believe that, first and foremost, school must be a place where children feel comfortable and secure; a place where they feel safe to be themselves, explore new ideas, develop their creativity and think out loud. We were founded upon the idea that students cannot be forced into learning, which is why every teacher aims to inspire and nurture each student’s love of learning. We strive to create growth experiences through competency based learning of durable skills which lay the foundation for their ability to become caring, responsible individuals who contribute to making the world a better place. Our Bold Learning OBjectives give students a knowledge of how the world works, teach them to think critically, be creative problem solvers, communicate effectively, and work well with others, in addition to a solid academic foundation.
We offer competitive salaries and a flexible environment, free of the traditional educational bureaucracy that can stifle teacher creativity and personal/professional growth.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Teaching Duties: Your primary role as a Social Studies teacher in high school will consist of teaching two courses beginning with American History and Global Studies, as well as special-interest themed classes, for approximately 7 hours each day beginning at 8:00 am. Though all curriculum and materials will be provided, we encourage your creative contributions to our existing framework. We do not use traditional report cards, but you will assess and evaluate regularly using a one of a kind growth framework that focuses on knowledge, skills, mindset, and creativity. You will carefully monitor students’ academic progress with a goal of achieving college/career readiness by graduation.
- Planning: Each teacher has one planning period per day, as well as a lunch break.
- Regular Attendance Requirements: Beyond classroom duties, we ask our teachers to attend school meetings, professional development days, graduation, and other community traditions and events.
